Week of October 31

We are having a new third grade student join our class Monday. If you were planning to send in a Halloween treat for the students to take home, please include one more for our new student. I know it would make him very happy! Thank you.

Our Classroom WIG–Our class will learn our addition facts by the end of November–is getting closer to being accomplished. We are at 30%. I know we can get the other 70% by the end of November. They have been working very hard at learning their addition facts. Please continue to support this learning at home. We want to celebrate our accomplishment at the end of November and I know we can with everyone working together.

Reading– Please continue to have your child read daily. We are learning more about text features and how to read closely using a R.A.N. Chart.
Writing- Our focus is turning to Opinion writing this week. We use the writing process with all our writing. We continue to learn our grammar rules. It is also important that good handwriting skills are practiced in all our work.
Spelling– Our spelling words went home Friday and are also posted on the blog.
Math- We are working on word problems. The students are learning to look for those key words in the problem that will help them solve the problems. We are also learning that problems may have 2 steps before we get to a final answer. always have your students show their work. It helps them to catch their mistakes and allows us to see where they may be having difficulties.
Science– The 2nd graders will be learning about Water and the 3rd graders will be learning about Light and Sound.
Social Studies– 2nd graders will be focusing on reading maps. 3rd grade will be focusing on the early history of Michigan.
