During the upcoming week, we will be doing a book report in school as well as for homework. The book report will be graded on the same rubric that we will be using in school. The rubric will be included with the book report that will be sent home Monday. The book report will be due February 29. The book must be a good-fit realistic fiction book. Using good-fit books help the children practice their reading skills, as well as helping them to continue on their path to read more complex text so they grow as readers.
Just as reading good-fit books help the children become better readers, always using the writing skills they are learning help them to continue to grow as writers. They should always be using complete sentences, capital letters where needed, end punctuation, paragraphing etc.. Using these skills in all writing, helps to make these skills part of them as writers. Correct spelling should be used. The children do learn about proofreading and know the importance of others being able to read what they write. Please encourage the use of these skills at home and in their homework.
Our focus in spelling continues to be homophones. The spelling words for Lesson 20 are: to, two, there, their, they’re, where, wear, bored, board, plain. There will also be 5 cold words. Check out SpellingCity for fun activities.
The Social Studies test is Monday. It is an online test.
March is Reading Month is approaching. Information of the activities will be coming home soon. If you would like to be a guest reader, please contact me to see if we can work out a day/time.
If you have not done so already, please consider joining the PTA. They support the school in numerous ways such as field trips, activities and events. We will be having a field trip in April. The PTA is providing some funding for this trip.
