Week of December 7

We continue our work with Informational reading.  We will be beginning our work with writing reading constructed responses.  We will use the R.A.C.E. Strategy.

R.A.C.E. is an an acronym for a simple writing strategy that can help students construct more thoughtful and thorough responses. This strategy can be modified to fit all grade levels.

Here’s how to help your students win at writing!

1. RESTATE – Students restate the question in the form of a topic sentence.

2. ANSWER – Students answer ALL parts of the question.

3. CITE – Students cite examples from the text that support their answer.

4. EXPLAIN – Students explain how their evidence supports their answer or connects to another text.

Our spelling is focused on /ou/.  The words are: found, cloud, pound, ground, count, mouse, house, ouch, science, multiply.  There will also be 5 cold words added to the list during the Friday test.

The Social Studies test will be given online Wednesday, December 9.  Check the 3rd grade Social Studies page for a copy of the study guide and more information about the online test.

The Student Lighthouse Team has organized a Food Drive for December 7-18.  See the Food Drive flyer.
