Report Cards

Report Cards are coming home today. If your child does not bring home their report card, please email me.

Report cards will be coming home today, Friday February 1st. Please check your child’s backpack for their report card and 2012 MEAP results (grades 3-5 only)

A new item on this report card is the reporting of student performance on two different computer-administered assessments for grades 2-5, one in reading and the other in math (Scholastic Reading Inventory and StarMath). Students in kindergarten and first grade will not receive the computer administered assessment scores, but rather their performance level will be determined using the DRA2 assessment as we have traditionally used.

These scores represent how students performed on the test compared with the performance of a nationally representative sample of students, called the norms group. These scores present only one snapshot of achievement at a specific point in time. As with any test, it is important to remember that many factors can affect a student’s test scores. These test scores give only one picture of how a student is doing in school.

Grade equivalent (GE) is a norm-referenced score ranging from 0.0 to 12.9+. It represents how a student’s test performance compares with that of other students nationally. For example, a fifth-grade student with a GE of 7.6 performed as well on the assessment as a typical seventh-grader after the sixth month of the school year. This score does NOT necessarily mean that the student is capable of doing seventh-grade math—instead; it indicates that this student’s skills are well above average for the fifth grade.

Please keep in mind that multiple measures are used to evaluate student performance levels, therefore it is also important to reference all the Standards and Benchmarks to get complete picture of your student’s achievement level.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress, please contact your child’s teacher or the office for further explanation.
