Make sure to continue reading everyday over spring break!
How the Sun Warms the Earth!
In science, we are learning about how the sun warms the earth. Make sure to ask your first grader about the experiment that we did today! We used thermometers, water, soil, air and lots of observation. We also talked about confirming our predictions as well as changing our thinking. We are feeling like true scientists!
Be on the lookout…
I have sent out the Flat Stanley project. Make sure to check the mail! Stanley, the travel journal and your pictures will be due back to school by Monday, March 21st. If you have any questions please let me know.
Social Studies
Please send a blank stamped envelope to school with your child on Tuesday. We will be addressing these in class so that we can send home our special family project.
Social Studies
We will be starting our geography project in social studies this week. Please help your child to practice his/her address and phone number.
Tower of Books Challenge
Please look for the notes coming home on Tuesday explaining the “Tower of Books” challenge. You may do this challenge along with your child. There are three ways for your child to earn a book spine: read the book independently, partner read the book with an adult at home, listen to a book that is read from an adult at home. There will be a list of books to choose from as your child works through the challenge. After he/she has completed a book I will give him/her a book spine to decorate and add to our first grade tower. Happy reading!!!
Spelling
We were a day behind in spelling because of the snow day and our 100th day of school celebration. Our test will be tomorrow. Make sure to study the words from last week!
100th Day Celebration!
We will be celebrating 100 days of first grade on Wednesday, February 24th. The students are invited to dress up like they are 100 years old. We will also be doing some fun “100” activities throughout the day. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out in the morning with one of our centers. Your child also brought home a note and plastic bag on Friday. Please help him/her to fill the bag with a collection of 100 items.

Make sure to ask your first grader how we used google hangouts to do a video chat with some of the other classrooms at DuVall so that we could market and advertise our products! We had so much fun using our chromebooks for this activity.
