Math Test this Week and Santa’s Workshop

Good Day Everyone,

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. Unfortunately, I was sick all weekend. I am just hoping I do not lose my voice. Then I may have to stay home. I’ve been drinking quite a bit of fluids so I should be fine.

This week we will have a math test on the following concepts:

Factors: Factors of a number are any two numbers that can be multiplied to equal a product. For example, 1, 2, 9, and 18 are all factors of 18.

Multiples: The answers to multiplication problems say all the answers to the 5s, 6s, etc. 5,10, 15, 20, 25, etc. are all multiples of 5.

Prime numbers: Numbers that 1 and only that number can be multiplied or divided. Such as 5. 1×5 are the only 2 numbers to get 5 so 5 is a prime number.

Composite numbers:
Products that have more than 2 factors such as 24. Factors can be 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24.

Santa’s Workshop:
We will preview the Santa’s Workshop on Tuesday and purchase things from our wish list on Wednesday, the 7th at 10:00. Please review your child’s wish list on Tuesday and send money if you wish, on Wednesday.

Spelling this week: Silent letters
knuckles, honor, wrestle, h eir, doubt, gnat, plumber, known, answer, th umbs, solid, liquid, gases, they, they’re

Thank you!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
Gina Parana

Weekly News 11-28-16

Hello Parents,

Welcome back to a new week. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and spent time relaxing and enjoying family and friends. I am very thankful for the support you all give your children and myself as we are a team! We are all working hard to give the best to our children so thank you for that:)

This week:

Math:
We will practice fluency with our facts at home for homework by practicing multiplication and division while learning new concepts such as factors, multiples, prime numbers, composite numbers, and reading/solving story problems. The internet is a great source to parents for refreshing math concepts as I understand much has changed since we learned math.

Reading and writing:
We will finish our compare/contrast writing and begin to study drama. We will study characters, elements of drama, word choice, vocabulary, and practice using what we know to infer character traits/motivations, etc. We will then begin to write our own drama.

Spelling this week: conductor, harbor, cheddar, odor, avatar, elevator, collar, grammar, guitar, tartar, hardness, factor, product, production.
Please practice spelling on your own. I can tell when students don’t practice. It’s worth the time as the grades reflect the effort put in:)

Science: We are beginning our unit on matter:)

Coming up:
4th Grade Popcorn Sale: Friday, December 16th. Please refer to the previous note sent on the dojo. We are need of many items that day. One of our homeroom parents will be calling for donations:) Thank you!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
Gina Parana
