Happy New Year (and Happy Birthday to Mohammad and Mrs. Parana!). Yes it is my 25th birthday today:)))

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break! It will be great to see everyone on Monday, January 6, 2020. It feels weird to write the year that way!

A special thank you for all of the wonderful cards, presents, or notes you and your child wrote for me before we went on break! I trully appreciate all of the kind thoughts, words, and other contributions!

This upcoming week:

Spelling: Prefix and suffix review: (I know some students/parents like to get started early.

unlock, unsafe, plays, jumped, started, hurst, hurting, teacher, baker, careless, helpless, hopeless, biggest, coldest, tallest.

Reading: Next week, reading homework will continue:) 20 minutes each night.

Math: Math homework will begin on Monday.

Homework from Break:
Before the break, I sent home 2 books that students could work on for extra practice. Have your child turn in their work for an extra 5 dojo points!

Team Parana Weekly News ( March 25, 2019)

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! This is our last week before our Spring Break begins. Spring Break begins next Monday, April 1 to Monday, April 8th. I hope everyone has a wonderful week off!

Monday, March 25: Spelling Words:
stare, share, dare, chair, rare, fair, care, pair, bare, hair, where, wear, the, they, them, themselves.
Study the Math Study Guide and clarify any confusions. Math Study Guide is due Tuesday.

Green/White Reading Logs: Students are doing a great job reading and recording their minutes on the reading logs. If you run out of space, begin writing on the back of the paper:) Be sure to turn the reading logs in Thursday with a chance to earn a ticket to win a free bike!

Tuesday, March 26: Mid Module 4 Test on Adding and Subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers using knowledge of place value and arrow methods.
A poem I taught the students for subtraction with regrouping is:

When there is more on the floor,
Go to the neighbor next door,
Borrow 10 more.

More on the top,
No need to stop.

Numbers the same,
Zero is the game:)

Wednesday:
5th graders will perform The Chocolate Touch play to our class.

Thursday:
March is Reading Month Assembly.

This week we have some special events:
Literacy Night at Nowlin School

* Book Walk Game
*Raffle baskets could be yours!!!
1 ticket for $1.00 or 6 tickets for $5.00

P.T.A. will have food to purchase at a low cost!

Friday, March 29th: Students can dress as their favorite book character.
Last day, then one week off!

March is Reading Month:
Each grade level is putting together a gift basket to raffle off at our Literacy Night. Information about this gift basket was sent out earlier, but I can resend in case parents need another copy. I haven’t heard from anyone if they would like to put together a gift basket for our Literacy Night on Wednesday, March 27th. The gift basket is due this week.
Guest readers are still welcome as well!
Don’t forget to record minutes on the green reading log!

Upcoming Field Trip: Tuesday, March 9th to the Dearborn Historical Museum from 9:30-11:30. We will then have lunch back at the school.

Last Day before Spring Break: Friday, March 29th: Full day of school, then no school the next week:))))

Each week we have something special going on! This week we are to invite a guest reader to read to our class. If you have a few minutes to spare and would like to come and read to our class, we would love to have you! Just let me know what day and time!
Continue to record your reading minutes on the “March is REading Month” calendar and your child will not only improve their reading skills, but will be entered into a drawing to win a free bike!

Friday, March 15: Pajama day! Students can wear their cozy pajamas while learning on Friday!

Wednesday, March 27, 2019
Bingo for Books from 6-7 in the cafeteria. We hope you can make it!

Field Trip to the Dearborn Historical Museum:
Tuesday, April 9th from 9:30-11:30.
A permission slip will be coming home soon. Volunteers will be needed.

Materials Appreciated and Needed:

A special thank you to all families sending in whiteboard markers, pencils, and snacks. It’s amazing how quickly those dry erase markers run out and quickly we go through pencils. Any and all supplies are greatly appreciated!
