Updated Thanksgiving Soup Agenda

Hi Families,

We now have enough volunteers to help  make our vegetable soup for Monday.  This will be a great lead in to writing where we can write opinions of our favorite Thanksgiving food or describe the steps we took to make the soup.

Volunteers are:   Mrs.  Cayton, Mrs.  Hazimeh, Mrs. Dowgiallo, Mrs.  Evanko, and Mrs.  McGeary.  Volunteers can arrive at 9:30.

Volunteers will help kids chop the vegetables, put them into crock pots, and let the vegetables simmer in the cafeteria.  I could use a few helpers at 3:30 to put the crock pots in the refrigerator.  I could also use some help Tuesday morning, taking the crock pots out of the refrigerator and putting them in the cafeteria to cook Tuesday morning so the soup will be ready at 12:00 on Tuesday.  STudents will still need a lunch that day.  The soup is just a special add on to our lunch.

Thank you!

We are in need of about 4 crock pots!

Sincerely,

Gina Parana

Tonight’s homework

Today’s homework is found in the Math Journal pg.  81 and 82.

Please return the book tomorrow as we work in it everyday.

Practice reading your part for the play.

We will be performing our play at 1:45 on Tuesday afternoon if you’d like to come and watch.

We don’t have enough volunteers to make the Friendship Soup on Monday so we won’t make our soup unless we can get more volunteers!  I’ll let you know!

See you at conferences tonight!

Sincerely,

Gina Parana

The Parana Post

Hi Families,

It’s been a rough weekend and start to the week for me.  I’ve been very sick here at home.  Nevertheless, I keep up with what is going on and know the kids are doing well with their math test that they took today.  It will be checked and sent home soon.  There won’t be any math homework today since we had our test.

We will have 20 minutes of reading tonight, practicing your child’s part in the play, and practicing spelling.

A great thing to do tonight since there isn’t any math homework is to go on to everydaymath.com and put in your child’s username and password and play some of the games.  One of our 2nd grade goals is to be fluent with adding and subtracting facts.  There are many games on there that can build math fluency.  Also, practicing addition and subtraction facts with the fact triangles is always a great thing to do!

Conferences  are tomorrow and Thursday.  I look forward to seeing those of you I haven’t talked with yet.  I am lucky to know and meet with such great families!

Library day every Wednesday!  Remember your library books!

Also, thank you for all of the volunteers and donations for the Thanksgiving soup on Monday.  My substitute is bringing the notes to me today so I can see how many volunteers we have.  If we get enough volunteers for that day your child will just need to bring a bag full of carrots, celery or onions.  Anything that can be cut up and put into soup.  I’ll send an updated list when I see the notes!

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Gina Parana

Homework for 11-11-13

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Our work for today is to work on Math Journal pg.  60 and Home Link 3. 5.  Pg.  60 should’ve been done in class but if not, students know to take it home.

I also sent home a subtraction sheet so students could get faster at knowing their subtraction facts.  We have been talking about counting up from the smaller number to the higher number when subtracting numbers greater than 3.  This sheet will be due back Friday.

Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.

Wednesday is a Late Start day and our first set of conferences is this Thursday.  I look forward to speaking with all of you!

Sincerely,

Gina Parana

The Parana Post Homework.

Dear Families:

Today we will need to print 3.2 and we completed Math Journal pg.  53.  Your child knows to bring it home if they didn’t finish.

The turkeys that have been turned in are looking great too.  Keep up the great work!

Please return conference reminders back to me so I know that the time is good/not good for you.  Let me know if you need another reminder!

Spelling words that came home are the “oa” pattern and the other high frequency words.

Sincerely,

Gina Parana

Happy Halloween!

Dear Families,

We had a great Halloween party!  Thank you for all of the donations and volunteers.  We had a great time!

I gave the students a break with homework tonight.  We do have a chapter review for math this weekend and of course our November home project.  Let me know if you didn’t get a November home project.  These projects are going out in the hall so please help your child revise and edit their papers and make sure all of the spelling is correct!  Thank you.

Have a great night tonight and hopefully it doesn’t rain.

Sincerely,

Gina Parana

Homework for today

I apologize for not sending this homework alert sooner.  Things have been pretty hectic getting ready for Halloween!

Tonight’s math homework is 2.13.

Also, if your child wants to bring in treats to pass out to their friends at the end of the day, that is fine too.

Sincerely,

Gina Parana
