Thank you,

Homework tonight is of course to read for 20 minutes.
For Math: We completed our test today so I told the kids to write a math story problem tonight. They can write a 2 digit addition, subtraction, mulitplication, or division problem. Thank you!
Sincerely,

Dear Parents,
Welcome to a new week! I have not been posting much on the blog since parents have been reviewing the Homework Machines each night. Thank you for signing the Homework Machines each night.
Homework Machines:
We have found that at this point in second grade, the Homework Machines help to prepare students for third grade where they will have to fill in a planner on their own. Having these Homework Machines signed each day at this point gives them that added responsibility of making sure parents sign their machines. It also helps students to be sure they have all their work completed by the next day. Thank you for viewing the reminder each night; reviewing academics as well as your child’s behavior for that day. Your child should color in the color they landed on at the end of the day. If your child doesn’t have anything marked feel free to write to me or call me. Once again, thank you for reviewing this Homework Machine each night, signing it, and returning it back to school.
Sincerely,
Gina Parana
It’s going to be a busy Friday:
We are celebrating March is Reading Month by wearing pajamas and meeting in the Gym to celebrate all of the wonderful readers at 1:00.
Then we celebrate positive behavior by having an afternoon snack and movie. Your child is free to bring in a morning and afternoon snack. Of course we always have fruit, a vegetable, or dairy product for our morning snack. Your child can treat themselves for their afternoon snack to celebrate good behavior for the month of March. Kids are really trying hard each day to learn to get better at reading, writing, math, and all of the other subjects. We are so excited to celebrate their good behavior! Great job!
Book orders were sent home today.
Online orders and orders sent by check will be due on Wednesday, April 2nd.
Thank you!
Reading logs are due tomorrow!
Summaries are also due.
Math tests will be coming home as well as 8.1 for homework tonight.
Thank you to all of the Mystery Readers so far. The kids love having parents read to the class!
Sincerely,
Gina Parana
Welcome to a new week!
A copy of this week’s spelling words will be coming home today. It is many of the “ur” words.
This week’s homework is also:
Reading and logging minutes on the reading log passed out last Friday.
Completing a summary sheet for a book you’re child is either assigned in class or one that they brought home. This summary sheet will be Friday.
Math -7 will be due Friday as well. Of course, you can always turn these things in sooner as well, except for the reading log!
Thank you,
Gina Parana
Great job recording reading minutes on the Nowlin Reading log. The logs are due every Friday in March. Each child that turns in their reading log gets their name placed in a drawing to win principal for the day! Ms. Rauch picks a name each Friday out of names of students who have turned in their reading logs!
Also, the class that turns in the most reading logs can win a pizza party!
It’s been an exciting week learning all about the common good and individual rights in Social Studies.
We are starting measurement in Math while continuing to build on our addition and subtraction facts.
We’ve been learning how to summarize our reading: Characters and Setting fall under First and next. The problem and events where characters try to solve their problem fall under then and after that. The solution would fall under finally. Practice summarizing with your books that students are reading at home. Thank you for sending Nowlin reading books back to school promptly.
During Writing Workshop and REading we’ve been reading and writing fantasy stories. Some of our wonderful authors were able to share stories in the Nowlin Newspaper and during the Brainstormers assembly this week. All of our students are winners as they continue to grow in writing each day. Kids were proud of their classmates that got their stories published.
During Science we are learning about water and how much water we used on a given day. We then graphed our results and discovered that we drank water far more than anything!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Gina Parana
Today is “Wear your favorite sports jersey” day.
I am a Tiger’s fan so that is what I will be wearing!
Welcome to a new week!
A new reading log is coming today. Use it if you need a new one. These logs are due on Friday. Our class is tied with another class so keep up the great work! Our class gets a rocket on the board for every 5 kids that turn in a reading log. The class that earns the most rockets gets a pizza party!
We have Late Start this Wednesday and library day every Wednesday! Great Job bringing in library books!
Homework today is Home Link 7.4, practice spelling, finish the Scholastic News article (many already finished), and Math Journal pg. 165 if your child didn’t already finish it!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Gina Parana
