Welcome Back
Hello Lowrey Families!
Welcome to 5th grade! My name is Gina Parana and I will be your child’s teacher this year.
Although this year will look different than years past, the whole Oakman team and myself are committed to working together to make sure that your child has a positive educational experience. We will accomplish this through the use of strong curriculum, relationship building and consistent communication. Please know that I am here to support your child in any way I can to help make this a successful and fun year! We are a team, and we can do this together!
Please read through the following information thoroughly to ensure a smooth start to the school year.
- The first week of school: August 31st – September 3rd 8:55am to 12:00pm.
- The primary goals this week are:
1) To get to know each student.
2) Teach students and parents the new technology tools.
3) Explain student and parent expectations.
4) Material pickup from school (books, chromes, supplies/supply lists)
- Attendance: Student attendance is mandatory and counted at all live sessions. If your child is ill or otherwise unable to attend a live session, please email the teacher as soon as possible so that they may be excused. If the teacher is not informed it will be an unexcused absence. Live sessions are an important part of your child’s learning and cannot be made up at a later time.
- Grading: Students will be graded using the Dearborn grading scale (1-4). Students will be expected to complete work on time and to the best of their ability. Please contact your child’s teacher right away if you are having trouble completing assignments or experiencing technical difficulties so that the Oakman team may be of assistance.
- Family-School Communication: All school-wide communications will be posted regularly through:
- http://lowrey blog. It is highly recommended that all Lowrey families subscribe to the school blog if they are not already.
- Email or robocalls
- Schoology

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! The weather is warming up, which means new things are coming our way:) I hope as new life begins to grow, so does extra happiness and peace in your life:))
I continue to miss you, think about you, and wish we were in school to finish out the year with lots of fun learning and growing together. Instead, we will do the best we can practicing together online. Life as we know it is so different, but we must learn to deal with surprises in life. We don’t always like surprises, but they will come, and anyone can handle surprises with the correct mindset.
We must “Go with the Flow” as you remember Mrs. Parana always saying to you. Life is full of surprises. If we are going to be happy, we must learn to adjust and appreciate even the negative things that happen in our lives. It is in those negative times that we learn and grow, just like the new life you see happening with nature. A beautiful butterfly doesn’t become that beautiful butterfly without going through changes. The changes aren’t always beautiful during the process. But, the end result is beautiful. It is the same thing with all of us. Dark or hard times lead us to beautiful times. We must learn to appreciate the hard times as a journey to something great. I believe the same will be true for you. Something great is going to happen to you in your future:) Reach for your dreams and believe you will get there. You can do it!
The past 5 weeks have been weeks of learning and growing even for me! I’ve been learning so much technology that hasn’t always been easy for me. But, just as you do your homework, I complete mine too each day. Soon, I hope to set up another classroom hangout either with the What’s App or with a new platform called The Big Blue Button. I will keep you posted on when we can have another classroom meeting remotely:)))
I’ll have more news about this as I learn more:))) I know everyone wants to see their friends, so I will try and set something up soon))) For now, here is a nice schedule for the week:)
View, refer to, or print the weekly calendar so that you can keep up with this week’s activities:)))))
