New Semester/Thanksgiving Break/Moving Forward!
Good Morning, Everyone!
Today is the last day before our much needed break!! I hope everyone has a wonderful time with friends and family! 🙂
Even though this is a short week, we will be annotating and listening to the poem, Gate A-4 today. Then we will be creating a brace map comparing the three texts we have used so far in this unit (“We’re Not White,” “Danger of a Single Story,” and “Gate A-4.”)
Next week, we will start drafting our compare and contrast essay discussing the three texts. You will be using the note taker from, “We’re Not White,” and the note taker from “Danger of a Single Story,” along with the note takers, you will also be using the annotated copy of “Gate A-4,” the compare and contrast double bubble thinking map we created for “We’re Not White” and “Danger of a Single Story,” and the brace map comparing the three texts. These will all assist you with writing a comprehensive compare and contrast essay.
The Essential Question for the essay (or the driving force, as I like to call it!!) will be, “How are these three texts connected and how do they differ in regard to stereotypes?”
You are expected to create a HANDWRITTEN ROUGH DRAFT before you can type up your essay. Upon completion of the essay, you need to turn in the following COMPLETED items (blank or unfinished work will receive NO CREDIT.):
- “We’re Not White” note taker
- “Danger of a Single Story” TED Talk note taker
- Double bubble thinking map comparing and contrasting “We’re Not White” and “Danger of a Single Story”
- Annotated copy of “Gate A-4”
- Brace Map comparing the three texts.
- Rough Draft – PEER EDITED
- Final Copy
We will start this next week, so please do not get ahead of yourselves! I will also be re-teaching the writing process so all of you know my expectations.
Along with this, we will have article of the week. I am thinking it will be a printed out version of a CommonLit article. We are gonna get practicing for the Midterm and the PSAT!!
Have an awesome break!!
