December!

I apologize for missing a bit of time in December! Welcome to break! Everyone has been working really hard the past few weeks and I am pleased to say that all of my grades are currently up to date! If you see that your child has completed an online assignment and you do not see a grade for it (IXL), please email me and I can get it corrected as soon as possible.

7th Grade Mathematics

Since my last post we have been really busy navigating our way through unit rates. Lessons 9 and 10 were both about this topic. We completed Lesson 10 with a quiz today. I wanted to let you know that students are allowed to bring and use calculators during class now. They do not need anything fancy, just ones that perform the basic operations will be fine. (They sell them at the Dollar Tree).

When we come back from break, we will be focusing on Lesson 11 which is based on equations for proportional relationships.

I had a few parents ask me about IXL. Your child can go and work on IXL anytime! I have a bunch of basic skills from the first lesson highlighted/starred if you want to give them extra practice over break. Also Khan Academy summer learning minutes will be going in this quarter! I suggest you have your student login to Khan (with Clever and make sure they have accumulated enough to get a grade that suits them. (480 minutes and above counts as an A.)

Computer Applications

Students have been working hard this week to do an animated story in PowerPoint. This is the last major assignment for the class.

When we come back we will be watching the presentations and then we will have a quiz on PowerPoint operations. This workload should take us to the end of the quarter.

QUESTIONS?

As always if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education,

We just finished Lesson 6 last week. I posted the results of the homework/classwork accomplished for the lesson along with the Quiz score. When working on this lesson students were given the opportunity to work at their own pace. I encouraged students allowing them to work with peers during the independent practice days (completing the Math Menu). I had a designated space for them to check work (when completed) and get help from me at a tutoring table. Students were given the chance to come anytime during the class periods where we were working on Math Menu to ask questions or get clarification on any question they did not understand. They took ownership of their learning by initialing each goal saying that they understood the material and got any help necessary before moving on to the next one. In order to retake the Lesson 6 quiz, IXL assignments need to have a smart score of at least 80 (at least 4 points). Here is the this week’s schedule:

As always, I could really use some Kleenex. I am down to 2 boxes now. Allergies seem to be hitting the kids hard.

7th Grade Mathematics

We are concluding Lesson 3 in the first unit. It is a combination of the first two lessons where you are adding and subtracting integers. The homework packet should have been completed for homework last night. The week will go as follows:

  • Monday- Finish page 21 – 23 in our Ready textbooks. Go over answers together in class.
  • Tuesday – Check homework packet. Do an activity in class using counters (manipulatives) to help visualize the problems being solved. Homework: graphing activity #10
  • Wednesday- Collect homework and homework packets. Continue working with counters to solve problems. Trick or Treat activity in class (homework if not complete).
  • Thursday- Collect homework. We will possibly have the quiz today (if not Thursday, the quiz will be Friday).
  • Friday- if the quiz takes place on Thursday, we will take a look at the new unit and start on Friday.

I know some parents were inquiring about quiz retakes. They are taking place during lunch. Students have to see me to get a pass and they can eat and work at that time.

Computer Applications

We are almost done exploring Microsoft Word. I have added participation points in for the quarter. Students start with 100 points. If they are not focused, they can lose up to 2 points per day. Students are still receiving approximately 3 assignments per week. They are given more than enough time in class to complete the work given. If your child is struggling please e-mail me and we can discuss any problems.
