See Google Classroom for detailed directions with a sample and video tutorial. Please comment on the Class Page if you have any issues.

This Week (starting 4-20-20)

Please look for emails from your advisory if you have not done so already. Many of the teachers (myself included are creating a Google Classroom page to easily communicate with our students. Your advisory teachers will be doing a weekly “check-in” with you in one way or another (Google Hangout, Classroom post, phone call, etc).

Schedule!

The schedule of live classroom availability from 11-1 during the week has been focused on 2 classes/day. Please see below. This does not mean you cannot contact your other teachers during these times, it just means that on those specific days you may want to make those classes a priority because teachers will be readily available to talk with you.

  • Monday: English Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Tuesday: Math and Science
  • Wednesday: Social Studies and Extended Core
  • Thursday: Science and English Language Arts
  • Friday: Math and Extended Core

7th Grade Mathematics

From now on please follow the following schedule for a layout for the week:

  • Monday: Check the Classroom page to see assignment posting and possibly a video explanation
  • Tuesday: Hangout from 11-12. Code to be posted on Classroom page before hangout.
  • Wednesday: continue working on assignments and Ready path
  • Thursday: continue working on assignments and Ready path
  • Friday: Hangout from 11-12. Code to be posted on Classroom page before hangout

REMEMBER! You should have 45 minutes of weekly time on your Ready path!

Assignment Information

The work in I-Ready and Khan Academy that you did over the last several weeks will be entered into the grade book this week, however anyone that was not able to get online before for any reason or did not complete the work still has the opportunity to get the full credit. Please let me know if you need support! Any work going forward will also be graded. If you still don’t have access to technology or have some other issue that will prevent you from participating in our Google Hangouts or completing the assigned work, please let me know via email, Google Classroom, Remind, or even call the school office and leave a voicemail so someone can pass the information on to me (and your other teachers) and we can provide you with an alternative solution to the online work. Parents, please encourage your son/daughter to complete their work to the best of their ability, to use the resources I provide, and to get in touch with me by email and participate in our Google Hangouts if they still have questions that you are not able to help answer.

Staying Organized with your work:

It would be helpful for students to have a notebook for the rest of the year for math, however even having looseleaf or plain paper would be sufficient. The notebook DOES NOT need to be brand new…if you even have a partially unused one or one that is smaller in size that would be perfect. Students can date any work done in the notebook or on looseleaf, including any notes taken while watching a video from me or one I suggest online, taking notes or writing down any examples during a Google Hangout, or even completing any assignments that you can’t print. The 7th grade math classes will be using Google Classroom, Google Hangouts (online chats), Khan Academy, and IXL, and Ms. Osak’s and Mrs. Furlow’s classes are still piloting I-Ready.

Lessons/Standards:

Each week we will be focusing on one standard, or a couple of very similar standards. The 7th grade math teachers have a rough schedule figured out, but we are not going to share it all at this time in order to allow us flexibility in the event we need to change anything including our pacing. This week we are beginning the Expressions and Equations Unit, which is what we planned on doing had the school closure not occurred. This first week, the week of April 20, we will be focusing on SOLVING ONE STEP EQUATIONS. This was done in 6th grade, but now we are including integers (positive and negative numbers) and possibly fractions and decimals. Students need to be able to do these before week 2, as we plan on going into two step equations the week of April 27.

Computer Applications

We will make a switch from teaching the Microsoft platform to Google. From now on please follow the following schedule:

  • Monday: Check the Classroom page to see assignment posting and possibly a video explanation
  • Tuesday: Continue working on assignments.
  • Wednesday: Hangout from 12-1. Code to be posted on Classroom page before hangout.
  • Thursday: continue working on assignments
  • Friday: Hangout from 12-1. Code to be posted on Classroom page before hangout

Lessons:

This week we are starting to work on Spreadsheets. I want you to organize your time moving forward. Create a schedule that includes your classes, times, and plan to stay organized.

Questions?

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me.

Updates Week of 4-13-20

All students should look out for an e-mail from their advisory teachers! We need all of our students to fill out the survey so we can better plan on how to continue as a district moving forward.

7th Grade Mathematics

As we are trying to get situated with our next steps as a district, I want you to continue working on 15 minutes on your Ready Path each day. For those of you that have already completed the other tasks (Khan Academy, and IXL), this is all you have to worry about. For everyone else, please take some time to get the past assignments done. I know that the last section on IXL is a tough one. If you need help, let me know. I am waiting to hear back from a couple of meetings that still need to be scheduled but I will have some time some time set aside this week to do a “hangout” where I can help with your questions. Please be ready with specific problems you have questions on (specific examples). You can also send me an email with a picture or post on our Google Classroom page in the meantime and I will help as I am able.

Computer Applications

As we are making decisions as a district on how to move forward, I want you to keep in contact with me! I assigned another letter that will be due by the end of this week. Along with that, I am asking you to go into typing.com and complete a few typing practice lessons a day. I only have 1 student exempt from this and that is because they have completed all of typing.com! Keep working and I can’t wait to hear from you!

Questions?

As always, please feel free to e-mail me and I will respond as soon as I am able.

Thank you for all of your continued support,

Mrs. Osak

Updates!

7th Grade Mathematics

Please be sure you have your weekly 45 minutes on the Ready path done by Saturday! If you don’t have the technology at home (computer) PLEASE contact the school. They can get you a Chromebook to use during this time! Please see below for the list of assignments (all Khan and IXL) that should be completed by the time we return from spring break. Check in Google Classroom frequently to ask questions or see questions that I have answered.

Computer Applications

I need to be honest here, I do not like the way typing.com is counting your minutes. I have also heard from some of you regarding the grades posted recently. I have taken all of this into consideration and am looking to add some credit to your scores. Please check my Google Classroom for a new assignment posted today! I will also be uploading a Microsoft Word quiz to take next week! You will get 2 attempts before it counts the scores. Please let me know if you are struggling and I will do all I can to help! If you don’t have the technology at home (computer) PLEASE contact the school. They can get you a Chromebook to use during this time!

More Questions?

Please feel free to e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I am able. Also, you can utilize class dojo or google classroom as I am checking those daily as well.

Stay safe everyone!

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education,

Mrs. Osak

Home School (assignments March-April)

Hi everyone! Below I am going to detail the work assigned for our month away from the classroom. Be safe and be sure to keep up with your learning!

7th Grade Mathematics

As I posted in Class Dojo and on Google Classroom, I have been working all day to come up with my plans for the month we have to learn outside of our class. I am going to list requirements for the time away with a variety of places to go.

****BE SURE THAT WHEN YOU LOGIN TO I-READY AND KHAN ACADEMY YOU GO THROUGH CLEVER! FOR IXL, BE SURE THAT YOU USE YOUR LOGIN OR I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR PROGRESS!

READY WEEKLY MATH!

Every student is required to complete 45 minutes on their Ready path. This needs to be completed WEEKLY! I will only be able to see weekly increments so do not wait until the end and try to accomplish all of this time at once, it will not count. I will be submitting scores weekly into grades. If you are struggling with a lesson reach out to me! You can e-mail or send me a message on Class Dojo or in Google Classroom. I will be reaching out during the time off to students not passing lessons in their path to provide any support needed as well.

OVERALL ASSIGNMENTS

A combination of Khan academy and IXL assignments will be listed below. Most of the Khan Academy is videos to help review and refresh what students have learned. I want them to take the time to watch these videos and do the practice assignments to help them better understand the IXL assignments that they need to complete. All of these assignments will be graded and given credit. I posted the Class Codes for Google Classroom and Khan Academy below just in case they are necessary.

March 2-6

First of all, I hope that the students who were able to attend the field trip had an AMAZING time! I know I did! If you or your child has any pictures from the trip I would love to see them! Please email them to me! I can post for all parents to enjoy as well.

7th Grade Mathematics

We finished chapter 13 this week and started the quiz on Friday. Students will be given more time to complete it on Monday so please make sure they study over the weekend. I only had 2 students complete it during class today. Next week we will begin chapter 14 and our new Unit!

Computer Applications

We are continuing our work with Microsoft Word. We are going to have an assignment daily from now on with a makeup day to complete anything missing on Fridays. We will be focused on Word for about 2 more weeks and then we will move onto Excel.

As always if you have any questions or concerns you can email me and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education.

February

7TH GRADE MATHEMATICS

Wow! What a month it has been! Mid-winter break and snow days mixed in with diagnostic testing, a review, and finishing chapter 12. Students now NEED headphones to bring to class daily. The school has headphones but I cannot guarantee that they will be available every day for student use in my room. Also, if you would like to purchase your student a calculator, they are allowed to bring them and use them in class now. You don’t need anything fancy, just something that can perform basic calculations. I know that they sell ones that are perfectly acceptable at the Dollar Tree. If your student does not have a calculator, I will let them use one during quizzes.

We are working on a few things that are new in the month of February and I hope they will continue for the rest of the year. (Both of the following sites can be accessed through Clever at home anytime.

  • We now have access to the online link to our textbook. Students spent about a week working on a diagnostic test to place them where they need to be with our curriculum. This program has a specialized path catered to each student (complete with tutorial videos) that students will work on for bellwork 3 times per week.
  • I have also created an IXL packet for each student individually based off of their NWEA scores. I plan on keeping this in the classroom, but will gladly make copies for any student (or parent) that asks. This packet will be our bellwork for the other 2 days of the week.

We started Chapter 13 this week and will complete it next week. The schedule will go as follows (class this week and next):

  • Monday (2/24)- review rules
  • Tuesday (2/25)- Chapter 13 Notes pgs. 116-117. Hw: packet pg. 123-124
  • Friday (2/28)- Chapter 13 Notes pgs. 118-119. Hw: packet pg. 125-126
  • Monday (3/2)- Notes pgs. 120-121. Hw: packet pg. 127-128
  • Tuesday(3/3)- Math Menu. (Finish packet)
  • Wednesday (3/4)- Field Trip
  • Thursday (3/5)- Math menu Hw: Study test on Friday
  • Friday (3/6)- Ch. 13 Test, collect Math Menus/ HW packets

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

I will be giving participation credit this week based off of time on task in typing.com (the site we use to practice keyboarding skills). I have noticed that students who are off task during the class period start to be disruptive during this time. Students should really focus during this time. The quicker you are at typing the quicker you can accomplish your assignments. The schedule will go as follows:

  • Monday (2/24)- Lesson 9 WP
  • Tuesday (2/25)- Finish Lesson 9 WP
  • Friday (2/28)- Make up day
  • Monday (3/2)- Lesson 11 WP
  • Tuesday (3/3)- Finish Lesson 11 WP
  • Wednesday (3/4)- 7th grade field trip
  • Thursday (3/5)- Lesson 15 WP
  • Friday (3/6)- Finish Lesson 15 WP

January 27-31

7TH GRADE MATHEMATICS

We spent this week taking the NWEA assessment. All classes finished Chapter 12 this week as well! If your would like to purchase your student a calculator, they are allowed to bring them and use them in class now. You don’t need anything fancy, just something that can perform basic calculations. I know that they sell ones that are perfectly acceptable at the Dollar Tree. If your student does not have a calculator, I will let them use one during quizzes.

We will be taking the quiz on Monday. In order to better prepare:

  • I have placed a review quiz in google classroom for the students to take this weekend. (I have the settings so each student can have 2 attempts at the quiz.)
  • They can take the lessons on IXL (Start at 7th grade M-7 (can do the rest of M as well)).
  • You can help! Give them problems with percents! Discounts, adding tax, figuring out the tip, finding the better deal between two sales, etc. Students should also know how to calculate a discount and add the tax, so if you want to throw some of those questions at them, it would really help. This is one section that everyone can relate to!

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

This week we completed 2 assignments in Microsoft Word and worked on keyboarding skills. Next week we should have at least 3 assignments for students to complete. This is a class where students should not have homework (unless they want to do the keyboarding program at home).

If your child does not have earbuds or headphones, it might be a good idea to purchase some for your student. There are some activities that we do in class that require students to listen to a video. Please do not send in air-pods, they will not work with the computers. (Send in ones that can be plugged into a desktop).

QUESTIONS?

As always if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education,

Mrs. Osak

Welcome to 3rd Quarter!

We are well on our way to the 2nd half of the school year! I am excited to work with my new computer applications group and continue with my current math classes.

7th Grade Mathematics

We are working on Chapter 12. This lesson focuses on finding percentages of numbers and using them in real world situations. They have been assigned Khan Academy to help them gain a greater understanding of what this lesson is about. Khan Academy was supposed to be due by Friday, but I am extending the deadline until Thursday this week. Here is our agenda:

  • Monday: No School
  • Tuesday: 1/2 day: Check packet pgs. 113-114. Turn in work from day substitute was here (Friday).
  • Wednesday: 1/2 day: Ready pg. 108-109
  • Thursday: In Class- Finish Ready pg. 108-109 HW: packet pgs. 115-116.
  • Friday: In Class- Ready pg. 110-111 HW: packet pgs. 117-118.

Next week (1/27) we will begin the NWEA assessment. As students complete the assessment they will finish Chapter 12 and be given a Lesson 12 Quiz. Both will be completed before Friday.

Computer Applications

This course will focus on learning Applications in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). There will not be homework in this course as long as students use their time wisely. Grades will rely heavily on tests, quizzes, and other projects. Along with these scores, students will receive participation points that will gradually decrease if students are not making good choices in class. If students choose not to work or follow expectations they will lose these points. If a student loses all points in a class period, parents will be contacted, and a consequence will take place.

Please see note sent home today on expectations and return it signed with your student tomorrow!

Also, if your child does not have earbuds or headphones, it might be a good idea to purchase some for your student. There are some activities that we do in class that require students to listen to a video. Please do not send in air-pods, they will not work with the computers. (Send in ones that can be plugged into a desktop).
