Okenka April 20, 2020Since the state has come out with new guidance, our school has officially put out a new learning plan. What does that mean?
- Yes grades will count. They will be put into MiStar soon
- You CAN earn an A in the class if you do high quality work for all of the assignments. If you don’t you could get a pass/fail grade. You CAN FAIL IF YOU DO NO WORK
- You must now attend class online every week. In ELA class, that will be used for speaking minutes. This is part of your grade
Work will continue to be assigned on Google Classroom. It will be assigned every Monday morning and be due Sunday at 11:59pm.

In order to “join” the class, all you have to do is click on the link under where it says “Access.” PLEASE NOTE: You cannot join a class Hangout until you have signed the contract in Google Classroom or I will remove you and you will not get points

Okenka April 13, 2020Hi everyone! Hope you had a good spring break at home! It was at least nice to not have to worry about homework for a week.
Your next assignment is up! We are continuing on with Frederick Douglass. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Your assignment:
Your assignment is in Google Classroom and is labeled Week 4. There are 2 parts
- Answer the discussion question FIRST. It says “answer this first” in all caps. This is to get you thinking about the theme before reading the chapter.
- Read and annotate Chapter 5. Same expectation as before, see Week 1’s post for details on how to comment.
Turning in your work
Your must click SUBMIT in order for your work to be turned in or I will not grade it
For the discussion questions, look to the right on your computer screen and there should be an option to “Answer Question.” Answer the question there and then click submit.

- IF YOU DO NOT HAVE RELIABLE WIFI/ INTERNET AT HOME PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP.
- The school is coming out with their formal plan for the remainder of the year later this week. Stay tuned and only listen to what is actually released from the school, not rumors. Remember, always check your sources.

Your next assignment is up! It looks very similar to last week. Please let me know if you have any questions. This is the last assignment before spring break. I will not assign anything over spring break, however I will still be available for questions, since it seems we’ll all be spending our spring breaks indoors.

Your next assignment is up! Now we’ve settled into online learning and the district has distributed technology, unfortunately the assignment this week is going to be a little more in depth and reflect what we used to do in class.

Okenka March 17, 2020Hello everyone I hope you’re enjoying your time at home with your families,
I know this online/ distance learning thing is new for all of us so I’ll ease into our first assignment as a weekly one to be finished by Sunday night 3/22
Your assignment
I’m assigning the next chapter in Fredrick Douglass to be read and annotated individually in Google Classroom. You will do this much the same way I did it in class. I will post the chapter as an assignment in Google Classroom and you will need 10 annotations. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SHARE IT WITH ME, JUST HIT SUBMIT WHEN YOU’RE DONE.
How to make an annotation
Remeber you need to label SOAPSTone annotations. I will post chapter 1 as a model.
To make an annotation, highlight the text with your mouse and right click. Then you can create a comment. OR just tap on the highlighted text on mobile.
