Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

 

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading

Nov 7-11

*Students will complete nuclear decay reactions.

*Students will complete nuclide symbols for elements and ions.

*Students will describe the difference between atoms and ions.

*Students will calculate the average atomic mass for elements.

Tuesday Nov. 7 is election day and there will be no school.

Chapter 4 Test will be on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Oct 31-Nov 4

*Students will construct a timeline for the structure of the atom.

*Students will describe how atoms of different substances differ and how atoms of the same element are the same.

*Students will determine the average atomic mass for different elements.

*Students will explain how isotopes of an element are similar and how they differ.

*Students will utilize nuclide symbols for elements.

Oct 24-28

*Students will describe matter in terms of elements, compounds, and mixtures.

*Students will apply the Law of Conservation of Mass to chemical reactions.

Chapter 3 Test will be Thursday, 10/27

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, 10/25, and Thursday, 10/27

Oct 17-21

*Students will be in the lab on Monday, 10/17, investigating physical and chemical changes.

*Students will research physical and chemical changes and distinguish between them.

*Students will be in the lab on Thursday, 10/20, gathering data and distinguishing between elements, compounds, and mixtures.

*Students will identify states of matter and describe their characteristics.

*Students will complete one-step, two-step, and cubic metric conversions.

*Students will distinguish between physical and chemical properties of matter.

*Students will distinguish between physical and chemical changes in matter.

*Students will describe the states of matter.

Conversion quiz will be Wednesday, 10/12.

Week of Oct 3-7

*Students will take a practice test on Monday, Oct 3 in preparation for the Chapter 1 & 2 Test.

*Chapter 1 & 2 Test will be given on Tuesday, Oct 4.

*Students will identify unknown substances through density determinations.

*Students will complete metric conversion problems.

Week of Sept 26 – 30

*Students will utilize measurement tools and apply the rules for instrument limitations when taking mass, volume, temperature, and length measurements.

*Students will apply the rules for significant figures to individual measurements.

*Students will apply the adding/subtracting and multiplication/division rules for significant figures when completing calculations.

Chapter 1 & 2 Test is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4

Week of Sept 19-23

*Students will use SI units when taking measurements in the laboratory.

*Students will determine the density of several unknown objects in the lab.

*Students will apply the rules for significant digits to all measurements and answers.

*Density lab will be done on Thursday, 9/22.
