Week of Nov 9-13

The Structure of the Atom

Learning Targets:

-Students will explain the structure of the atom.

-Students will describe the subatomic particles that make-up an atom, their location, relative mass, and charge.

-Students will calculate the average atomic mass for an element and describe isotopes.

*The retake test for Chapter 3 will be Thursday at 2:20pm in room D-10.  Retake forms need to be signed and returned by Thursday, 11/12.

Week of Nov 2-6

Learning Targets:

-Students will, through problem-solving, determine the percent by mass for elements in a compound.

-Students will explain the laws of multiple and definite proportions.

-Students will demonstrate understanding of matter in term of its properties, its changes, and its classification.

Students were provided with the Chapter 3 review on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Chapter 3 Test will be given on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

There is no school on Tuesday, Nov. 3, so students who need assistance before the test need to plan appropriately.

Week of Oct 26-30

Learning Targets:

-Students will be able to classify matter as either a pure substance or mixture

-Students will be able to describe the separation techniques for mixtures

-Students will be able to distinguish between types of matter during a laboratory activity

-Students will experiment with physical and chemical changes in matter

Chapter 3 Test is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, 11/4

Physical and Chemical Properties and Changes retake quiz is Wednesday, 10/28, in room D-10 at 2:20 pm

Week of Oct 19-23

Learning Targets

-Students will be able to classify matter as a pure substance or a mixture.

-Students will be able to describe the two types of mixtures.

-Students will be able to explain several separation techniques for mixtures.

There will be a quiz on sections 3.1-3.2, Physical and Chemical Properties and Physical and Chemical Changes on Thursday, 10-22-15.

The retake quiz for Chapter 2 will be after-school on Wednesday, 10-21-15.

Week of Oct 12-16

Discussing Sections 3.1-3.2

-Students should be able to distinguish between physical and chemical properties.

-Students should be able to distinguish between physical and chemical changes.

-Students should be able to explain the 3 states of matter in terms of particle arrangement.
