Week of Feb 29-March 4

Measuring Matter

-Students will be able to convert moles of a substance to moles of another substance.

-Students will be able to convert moles to particles and particles to moles.

-Students will determine the molar mass of a substance and identify the substance in the laboratory.

 

Week of Feb 23-27

-Students will predict products for single replacement reactions.

-Students will balance chemical equations, identify types of chemical reactions, and predict products on the Chapter 9 summative assessment.

*Chapter 9 Review was given to students on Wednesday, 2/17.

*Chapter 9 Test will be given on Wednesday, 2/25.

Week of Feb 1 – 5

Chapter 9 – Chemical Reactions

-Students will distinguish between reactants and products in a chemical reaction.

-Students will inventory atoms in a chemical reaction.

-Students will balance chemical reactions.

*Laboratory Safety Contracts were given to students on Monday, 2/1, and must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned by Friday, 2/5.

*Classroom expectations and textbooks will be given out on Tuesday, 2/2.

*There will be a Balancing Equation Quiz on Tuesday, 2/9.

Week of Jan 25-29

-Monday, 1/25, and Tuesday, 1/26, will dedicated to review for the Chemistry final exam.

-Students were provided a final exam review sheet on Tuesday, 1/19.

-Exams are scheduled for Wednesday, 1/27 from 7:20 – 10:30, Thursday, 1/28, from 7:20 – 10:30, and Friday, 1/29 from 7:20 – 10:30.

Semester one ends on Friday, 1/29.

Week of Jan 11-15

-Students will write formulas for simple binary ionic compounds.

-Students will write formulas for ionic compounds that contain polyatomic ions.

-Students will name ionic compounds (binary and those with polyatomic ions).

-Students will describe metallic bonding and the characteristics of metallic substances.

*Chapter 7 Review sheet will be given to students on Tuesday, 1/12.

*Chapter 7 Test will be given on Friday, 1/15.

*The final exam review will be given to students before the end of this week.

Week of Jan 4 – 8

Learning Targets:

-Students will describe how positive and negative ions are formed.

-Students will write formulas for ionic compounds.

-Students will name ionic compounds.

-Students will explain how metallic bonds are formed.

*There will be an Element Quiz on Wednesday, 1/6.

Week of Dec 7 – 11

Learning Targets:

-Students will write orbital diagrams for elements.

-Students will write electron configurations for elements.

-Students will write electron dot diagrams for elements.

* Chapter 5 Test will be on Thursday, December 10

Week of Nov 30 – Dec 4

Learning Targets:

-Students will explain the Quantum Theory of the atom.

-Students will describe the probable location of an atom by using the 4 quantum numbers.

-Students will draw electron configurations, orbital diagrams, and Lewis Dot Diagrams for atoms.

*Quiz for section 5.1 is Monday, Nov. 30.

*End of the card marking is this Friday, Dec. 4.

Week of Nov 23-24

Learning Targets

-Students will perform the Flame Test Lab for several substances.  They will then identify unknown substances using their experimental data.

-Students will find the frequency and wavelength of a wave through calculations.

-Students will determine the energy of a photon using the frequency.

Thanksgiving break is Wednesday, 11/25 – Sunday 11/29.

Week of Nov 16-20

*Chapter 4 Test is Tuesday, November 17.

*Adopt an Element Project is due Thursday, November 19.  This project includes the information sheet and poster for the student’s element.

Learning Targets:

-Students will describe the properties of waves.

-Students will describe the location of the electron within energy levels (Quantum Mechanical model)

-Students will write electron configurations and orbital diagrams for atoms.

-Students will draw Lewis Dot Diagrams for representative atoms.
