Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a relaxing week off, I know I did 🙂

Just one reminder this week- we will be visiting the Book Fair tomorrow just to browse and make a wishlist. We will be going on Wednesday to purchase books! You can look for your child’s list to come home tomorrow.

Module 3 math tests will also come home tomorrow. Please sign and return. Most students did really well, but the word problems were a bit tricky! We will continue to work on multi-step word problems as the year goes on, but this is a great area to review with your child.

Our spelling words this week are Latin roots. The list can be find in your child’s planner, and below:

chron= time, jud= judge, script= write, struct= build, aud= hear, vis= see, spect= look, cent = 100, rupt= break

We continue to work on animal reports in class. I will provide some class time to work on the art piece of the project, but your children have all met with Mrs. Thomas and may also work on the project at home. Make sure that the three or four features that make the animal unique stand out. For example, if claws are important to the animal, they should be emphasized in your child’s art work.

Hi everyone!

Between my being out sick yesterday and several students being out last week, I feel like we have a lot of catching up to do! 🙂 I still had several students who needed to complete their geometry test, but all were completed today. Students will be bringing the scores home either tonight or tomorrow.

Our spelling words this week are absorb, attitude, confess, examine, fortunate, frail, moisture, prevent, reverse, and suitable. They are available on Flocabulary if your child would like to do extra practice with the activities.

We are focusing on informational text structures in reading. We have done cause and effect, compare and contrast, and this week we are working on problem and solution.

In science, we are lucky to have Mr. Debouk coming in on Tuesdays to help us out with Physical Science as we design a Jet Toy balloon-powered car!! The students are loving the activity so far.

I have had several people ask about a due date for our life science project-based learning animal piece. This is a 4th grade project-based learning assignment, and as such, we will be completing some parts in home, and some in class. There is no official ‘due date’ yet, however, your child should be getting the materials together at home to start the project, and bring them in to get Mrs. Thomas’s approval before beginning. If your child has already met with Mrs. Thomas, they are free to start creating the art at home! We will also be working on the report part in class.

Finally, please keep sending in those cereal boxes! We will need them for a Valentine’s mailbox next week. So far, we have enough for about half the class. If you have extras, feel free to send them in. 🙂

Hi everyone!

We will be doing a Valentine’s Day project on February 14, and each student will need an empty cereal box. Please feel free to send in a cereal box with your child whenever you get an empty one, and we will save them. If you have more than one, we will use the extras if anyone can’t bring one in. Thank you! 🙂

As I mentioned yesterday, I am sending home your child’s report card for the second card marking today. The winter NWEA scores will NOT be recorded on your child’s report card until the third card marking. I have stapled your child’s winter NWEA scores to their report card (except for a few students who still need to finish one or more tests- I will send those reports home next week). Please look over the report card and scores with your child, and let me know if you have any questions!

Again, many students met their growth goals in one or more subject areas. Encourage your children to keep working hard and to keep working towards more growth for the spring round of testing! 🙂

Sorry for the late blog this week! Between days off, half days, meetings, and report cards, the week flew by!

We are JUST about done with NWEA testing, and I am EXTREMELY proud of our class! Every single student increased their math NWEA score, and most students increased by a significant amount, far exceeding their goal! We aren’t quite done with reading NWEA yet, but most students also increased their scores in that area. 🙂 They should be very proud of their hard work. Keep it up!

In class, we will continue to review geometry tomorrow. I will send the review home tomorrow. I spent this afternoon looking over the reviews and checking them, and most students did really well. If I feel we are ready, we will take the test Monday. If I feel they need an extra day, we will take it Tuesday. I’ll let them know tomorrow!

Report cards should be sent home with your child tomorrow. I will also attach their NWEA score report for January. If your student is not quite finished with NWEA, I’ll just send the report card, and send the NWEA report when all tests are finished.

We continue to progress as readers and writers. Your students are working hard, and it is showing in their work. Please continue to encourage them to read at home, both for fun, and for NWEA/MSTEP practice, they should be utilizing ReadTheory.org.

I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful holiday break!!

This week, we are getting back into the routine and catching up/finishing up some things we had started before break. Therefore, there is no spelling list this week. We will start back up again with spelling/vocab next week.

We also are taking a break from Module 3 (multiplication/division) to focus on Module 4, which is geometry. We will be going back to long division and multiplication though, so do not worry!

Finally, we will be taking several NWEA tests over the rest of this month. We will start with Language NWEA sometime this week, and then do Reading/Math in the next couple weeks. Please make sure your child has a good night’s sleep and is ready to focus! 🙂

We had such a fun week! Thank you to Mr. Elsayed for helping us make the most wonderful ornaments from Speckles + Splatter. It was so generous of him to donate to our classroom! Special thank you also to Mrs. Eberwein and Mrs. Swider for helping to plan our holiday party, and Mrs. Farhat for helping out with the craft!

I also want to thank all of you and your children for the thoughtful notes and gifts I received. I am so blessed to work with such wonderful families! I wish you all a wonderful, happy holiday season.

Hi everyone!! This is a very busy week of school as we head into holiday break!

First, your child probably informed you we do not have spelling/vocabulary words this week. We are working on activities in class instead.

In math, we are working on long division and multiplication (2 digit by 2 digit). These are tricky concepts at first, so please support your child at home by giving them practice problems!

Yesterday, our class got to enjoy hot cocoa and a story with Mrs. Claus due to showing manners and good etiquette in the cafeteria. 🙂

We will be having our classroom celebration Friday morning around 11:30. Students should still pack a lunch or plan to get a lunch at school, as they will be going to the cafeteria like normal. However, we will be having some snacks and treats! Thank you to our room moms for organizing this. 🙂 The students have asked if they can wear their pajamas to school on Friday, and that is fine with me!

Finally, Student Council is having a Holiday Raffle. They will be selling tickets for 50 cents, or 3 for 1 dollar, during lunch Wednesday and Thursday.

Hi everyone!

We had a great week. First, we saw beautiful art pieces at the DIA. The students were so well-behaved, and received compliments from other adults in the building.

ALSO, we had our PBIS monthly celebration on Wednesday. Not only did the students receive the Rock Star Award from Mrs. Bagnall for good behavior in music, but they ALSO received the etiquette award for being respectful, responsible, and safe during lunch! I am so proud of their hard work!! Please encourage them to keep it up 🙂

Finally, we need each student to bring in a pair of socks ASAP for a special holiday project. The socks can be any size, color, or pattern. The more fun they are, the better! They can be holiday-themed, but they do not need to be. Please do not buy anything new, any pair your child has outgrown or no longer wears would be perfect. 🙂 Technically, they only need one sock, so the extra can be used for students who forget to bring one, OR if you have a random sock missing its match, this would be a great way to get rid of it! lol.
