A few Tuesday updates

Hi everyone!!

It was nice to see so many people during our Google Meet today. Remember, Thursday we have a Google Meet at 12 PM for the boys, and 2 PM for the girls. You will be presenting your PBL animal project to myself and Mrs. Thomas during this time.

Mrs. Thomas also wanted us to share with you the code for her Google Classroom: 6yhajk2, and you can also view her blog here.

In addition, Mrs. Bagnall is back from maternity leave, and she is sharing her blog here.

Finally, the special area teachers have created a schedule for you to follow so that you are still getting art, gym, and music each week. They’ve asked me to share it here. 🙂

Keep following the calendar and I will see you all on Thursday!

Google Meet at 1 PM

Please check Google Classroom for the link 🙂

Google Meet/Hangout Etiquette Guide for Students from the District

  1. Take a Look at your video BEFORE joining the Hangout. Make sure that everything in the video (especially the background) is appropriate.
  2. When you enter the Meet/Hangout, mute yourself (If you are already not muted.)
  3. When you have a question, type in the textbox and wait for your teacher to call on you.
  4. When you have something to contribute to what is being said, but it is not your turn, use the chat feature in the right-hand corner.
  5. Wait for the teacher to call on you to unmute yourself.
  6. Only one student should contribute/talk at a time
  7. Look into the camera when you are talking.
  8. Stay attentive. Pay attention to your teacher or other students who are speaking.

Welcome back! April 13 Online Learning

Hi everyone! I hope you had a restful spring break with your families, and a happy Easter to those who celebrate!

I am attaching the new calendar for the week here as a PDF, and as a picture. I will also have it on the main page of my blog if you look on the left hand side. If you can print it out and check off each item as you complete it, that’s great! If not, that’s okay too. The picture below is a bit blurry, so I recommend you clicking the link to the PDF!!

I do want to remind everyone that now that we are officially learning from home for the rest of the school year, it is very important that you are keeping up with your school work and joining our Google Hangouts. Our first chat this week will be Tuesday, April 14 at 1 PM. The link will be posted here shortly before 1, and I will also send you an email invitation.

We will also be presenting our PBL animal projects from home this week! On Thursday, April 16, boys will join our Google Hangout at 12 PM, and girls will join at 2 PM to chat and share your projects. You will be expected to present your piece of art and tell us about your animal’s 3 features. I chose to split the class in half so we can chat a bit more, and that way you will not have to sit through all of the presentations on your computer for so long. 🙂

One change to our weekly calendar this week is that we are no longer asking you to complete the Learn book pages- please just complete the Zearn lessons, as well as the pages in your Succeed book using your homework helper. As we get more directions from the district and the state, this is subject to change, as well.

I will be reaching out to several families and students over the next couple days to remind you about keeping up on Zearn/ReadWorks/Flocabulary, as some of you are a little behind! Remember- school may look different now, but we are still working as a class. I am proud of all of you for showing integrity- keep up the great work!

Friday, April 3- Day 15 Online Learning

Hi everyone!

I hope this beautiful, sunny Friday finds you well! I was very sad (and still am) about the fact that our in-person school year has come to a close. However, I am going to look on the bright side- I am STILL your teacher and we are STILL a class. <3We are going to enjoy spring break next week, and then come back to school the week of April 13th online and ready to go.

I will be spending spring break making a new learning calendar, adjusting what we do to make this a smooth transition, and finding some new activities and ways to connect. Things to keep in mind- we will be presenting our PBL art projects to each other on Google Meets after spring break! Be sure to have yours completed. If we missed you in our last couple of online chats, not to worry- we will be making them a regular part of our new routine. 🙂

There will be no new assignments over the break next week, but this would be a great time to get caught up on Zearn, Flocabulary, and ReadWorks if you need to. I will be contacting families and students who are not caught up yet. Please let me know if you need me to reopen an assignment, and I will do so.

Although I won’t be posting new assignments next week, I will check my email and Dojo periodically if you need me- and I may be posting instructions for how to access your child’s report card online.

A couple more things- here are Jake and Celine SOCKING it to Corona yesterday 🙂 Today is our last spirit day- Practice social distancing and tell us how you are spending your time! Share your favorite playlist, TV show, movie, game, book you are reading, etc. Maybe we can share some ideas for others so you have activities for spring break!

As always, reach out to me with any questions or just to say hi. Keep up the great work you all!! 🙂 School is different now, but we are still a team, and we are still in session.

Thursday, April 2- Day 14 Online Learning

Hi everyone! Before I share the Spirit Week photos from yesterday, I wanted to remind everyone that you must be checking this calendar daily to see what your tasks are. Each day, you have a response to reading that you should be completing in your notebook. After spring break, we will start discussing these responses when we do our google chats!

Mrs. Ventura also wanted me to let you know that she has figured out a way to print out recorder belts at home! She says, “Any student that gets to a black belt will be mailed ALL of their recorder belts.” Hopefully that encourages you to keep practicing!

Now on to yesterday’s reading pictures. I am including my own! Today’s challenge is to “Sock it to Corona” by sharing a picture of you in your crazy fun socks, and tell me how you are fighting Coronavirus!! This is a fun one- don’t forget to share.

Remember– the calendar is your best friend. Download that file, print it out, reference it every day. We will be adding to it after spring break is done.

Reading- Read 30 minutes, respond to prompt in the calendar. Work on Flocabulary.

Math- Lesson 24 Zearn, Problem set with video, and Succeed pages (just doing your best).

Science- Finish up your PBL art project so we can share them on Google Hangouts after break! Also, keep working on your ecosystem diorama and your physical science slideshow if you still need to.

Okay, that’s all for today. Don’t forget your crazy sock photos!! Send them my way 🙂

Wednesday, April 1- Day 13

Hi everyone!! Happy Wednesday!! Thanks for sharing all the spirit week photos. Take a look at them below. Today’s challenge is to share a photo of what you are reading! I’ll share mine too. 🙂

Thanks everyone for sharing! So fun.

Today’s agenda:

Reading- the usual reading 30 minutes and responding to the prompt in your calendar. I am thinking that the next time we do a weekly chat, we can share some of our writing. Please be ready to bring your writing with you. You also have ReadWorks today- “A Tricky Monkey.”

Math- Lesson 23. Complete Zearn, try the problem set with video, and homework solutions. Remember not to worry about being perfect- showing integrity and trying your best is the goal for right now.

Science/Social studies- Remember we decided not to do the business project this week, so you can ignore that part of the calendar. For your PBL art projects, we may do a Google Hangout after spring break to share your projects with one another. 🙂 If you need assistance with your work, please contact me or Mrs. Thomas!! Mrs. Thomas is awesome and willing to provide feedback too if you want to email her: thomass@dearbornschools.org

Any questions, please contact me. I miss you all and wish you well!!

Tuesday, March 31- Day 12 Online Learning

Good morning!!!!!! Today’s Spirit Week challenge- send a picture of something you have made! (art, food, etc.) I will share mine later today.

Here are some of our friends’ photos from yesterday:

I love it so much! Thanks for sharing everyone 🙂

A couple quick notes for today–
Mrs. Thomas is posting information on her blog for art if you are interested! She is also willing to meet with anyone who needs help with their PBL projects. If you would like to meet with her through Google Hangouts, send her an email!

Also, Mrs. Sabbagh wanted to be sure this message was shared with all parents: The third card marking ended officially on March 27. However, report cards will only reflect work completed up until March 12 (the last day we were in school in person).

Finally, keep up the excellent work on your assignments! Students– I know I keep saying it, but I am so proud of your commitment to school during this time. A few of you need to get caught up on Zearn, but most of us are just where we should be. I know that fractions can be tricky. I encourage you to keep trying your very best- watch the videos, watch the tutorials, use your homework helper, and reach out if there is a particular problem that is tricking you.

Keep checking my feedback on ReadWorks and Flocabulary, and keep checking the calendar. You are all awesome and I am just an email away 🙂

Monday, March 30- Day 11 Online Learning

Yay! It was so nice to see and chat with so many of you again today- thank you for joining. We also got to see some amazing animal projects. Thank you Celine, Abraham, and Xavier for sharing. Celine is also going to share some pictures of her diorama with me.

Don’t forget virtual spirit week!!!! Today’s challenge is to post a picture of you and your pet or you and a stuffed animal. Bo is at my parents’ house, but here are a few cute pictures of him that I took before. Send me yours and I will post them later tonight or tomorrow!!

One quick change to the calendar this week- you do NOT need to do the ‘create your own business’ economic project. We will save that for later. So you can ignore that part of the calendar- spread the word!

Today’s math video:

As always, do your BEST with the problem set while watching the video, focus really hard on Zearn, and try the homework. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You are all showing integrity when you do your best even though it’s tricky and your teacher isn’t right with you!!

You also have your normal reading activities and Read Works- see the calendar. 🙂
