Wednesday, May 13

Hi everyone!

I was so proud of all our students in yesterday’s chat. They did a great job participating, answering questions, and discussing the story we are using for our writing assignment this week. It is so nice to be able to interact with them!!

I keep reminding the students to check the calendar first thing every morning so they know what the assignments are for each day. Friday is more of a “catch up day,” so I encourage them to stay caught up throughout the week in order to have more free time on Friday!

Today- here is a link to Khan Academy. Scroll to Topic B and try the practice activities for that topic. This will be a good review for our Edulastic quiz.

Students should have turned in their blueprint yesterday for the Happy Trails TDA writing assignment. If they did, I have already returned it with feedback on Google Classroom. They will be using that blueprint today to turn it into a 5-paragraph rough draft. We have done this in class, and I have posted instructions on Google Classroom too, but I also want to share with you what I am looking for!:

The R+A in the RACER blueprint should be paragraph 1, introduction. The first row C+E is paragraph 2, the second row C+E is paragraph 3, the third row C+E is paragraph 4, and final R is paragraph 5. I know that sounds confusing, but trust me, your child knows πŸ™‚

I would really appreciate, parents, if you could look over your student’s rough draft today. Do they have 5 paragraphs with indents? Do they have complete sentences with capital letters and punctuation? Tomorrow, they will type their ‘final’ draft on Google Classroom. It does not need to be perfect- remember, I am grading them on effort and participation.

Thank you for your help in this! I am looking forward to reading their writing. πŸ™‚

Tuesday, May 12

Hi everyone!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in the chat today. Please bring a piece of paper and a pencil with you. We will be doing a fun activity, and also going over this week’s writing assignment, so it is super important that you join us if you are able!

I have attached the directions for logging onto our iLearn chat as a page/tab on my blog if you need them! Girls are meeting at 12 PM, and boys at 1 PM.

We are doing a writing assignment this week that your students should be familiar with from work we have done in school. I have posted step-by-step instructions on Google Classroom. Today, they are simply filling out the blueprint/graphic organizer, and discussing it with me during our class meeting for more direction. Tomorrow, they will work on a rough draft. Thursday and Friday, they will work on a final draft. Please encourage your children to take this assignment seriously and to take their time, as writing is very important! When we are done, this will be a 5-paragraph essay that includes complete sentences, proper punctuation and capitalization, etc.

Finally, I still have a few students who need to answer the 3 questions that went with our Mystery Science assignment last week. Please remind your student to take a look at Google Classroom and see if they have completed this assignment.

Thank you for the support!!

Next, here is OUR agenda for the week! Note that today, the students only need to complete the multiple choice for ReadWorks- not the short answers. We have a writing assignment this week, so please make sure your student attends the chat tomorrow! I will be going over this assignment with them.

I also had a few students who had missing or incomplete work last week. I am letting those students know via Google Classroom. Please remind your students that they are required to do the learning and are being graded based on participation. If you could check over the agenda items from our calendar with them each day to make sure they are complete, that would be great. πŸ™‚

I will see everyone tomorrow!!

Friday, May 8

Hi everyone!

First and foremost, a giant thank you to all of you!! Thank you so very much for making me feel appreciated and special from afar this Teacher Appreciation Week. I loved the drive by visits, the porch dropoffs, and I LOVED getting to see some of you while I was passing out math books! It truly made my whole week to get to see and talk to so many of you in person! ❀️πŸ₯°

Before you sign off for the weekend, please have your child head over to Google Classroom. I have shared an announcement with a checklist of the week’s activities. Please make sure they have completed each item on the list. In school on Fridays, we would do β€œKetchup and Pickles.” The kids know that they would have to β€˜catch up’ on the week’s work before they β€˜pick’ a free time activity. Please try this today at home- if your student has been keeping up each day (and most have!) they should have very little work to finish today.

Finally, happy Mother’s Day! I wish all of you a beautiful weekend. I hope the kids spoil you! Although we couldn’t make gifts in school this year, they worked on a special assignment/card just for you this week. I appreciate all of your hard work as you teach your kids each and every day! Thank you for all you do and enjoy a relaxing weekend! πŸ’πŸ’•

Thursday, May 6

Hi everyone!!

Today’s agenda: I will be at school from 1-3 handing out math books for Module 6/7. Again, 4th grade is not assigning pages from these books, BUT the district would like you to have them for extra practice and/or summer work. I hope to wave at some of you as you drive by this afternoon to get them! πŸ™‚

Next, please type your Mother’s Day poem in Google Classroom for me to look at today. That is your writing for this week. Some of you sent me a picture instead and that is okay, too.

Mystery Science- keep enjoying those roller coaster videos. If you make your own roller coaster, be sure to send me a picture! You do not have to build your own roller coaster, but you do need to answer the 3 questions attached to the Google Classroom assignment. Thanks!

Lesson 6 in Zearn/Succeed today. I will post the homework solutions for you later today when I get back from Howard. I apologize for the delay. The website where I download some of the pages has been down.

Finally, a few of you still need to take your math quiz! Please don’t forget to head over to Edulastic for that. Link is on Google Classroom.

That’s all for now! Keep up the good work! Talk to you real soon! πŸ™‚

Wednesday, May 6

Hello again everyone!

I am so appreciative of all the kind notes and sweet words I have been receiving this week. I am so fortunate to be your teacher! Thank you again.

Please see the calendar for today’s agenda. You can also go back into Edulastic to see your final quiz score. I had to go in and adjust some of the grades, as well as score question 5. I think you will be very happy with your scores! Remember, you can check Parent Connect for your grades on your assignments. I also am still providing feedback on your ReadWorks and Flocabulary assignments.

Mystery Science- please watch the videos and answer the questions on Google Classroom. You have the rest of the week for this fun assignment- I love watching these videos in class πŸ™‚ You do NOT need to build the roller coaster- that part is the ‘optional activity’ part- but please do answer the questions and enjoy the videos. Thank you!!

I wanted to be sure to share some of the amazing business projects from yesterday’s chat. If you didn’t send me a photo yet, feel free to send me one, and I’ll post it tomorrow! I truly mean it when I say I am SO impressed by your hard work and dedication to your learning. I hope you had fun making these projects, I know I had fun watching them!

Finally, a message from Mrs. Sabbagh regarding math book distribution. Parents may go to Howard School on Thursday, May 7th to pick up module 6 & 7 learn books that go with our math program. Fourth grade teachers are not requiring that they be completed at this time, but you can use them for additional practice during this Remote Learning time and during the summer to enrich and practice the necessary skills for fifth grade. Please read the information below for more details.

Tuesday, May 5

Hi everyone! I am looking forward to our meeting today. Please follow the iLearn directions from last week πŸ™‚ Girls 12 PM, Boys 1 PM.

Before I say anything else, I want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who are making me feel so appreciated on Teacher Appreciation Week! I have received some very sweet notes, and I LOVED the photo collage of Howard students holding up signs! Mohamed D. was featured for our class. πŸ™‚

I was SO surprised yesterday when I opened my front door to see some amazing goodies dropped off by Jake and his mom! They are from all of you. Thank you all so very much! You truly made my week. I am so lucky to be teaching such a wonderful group of students during such a challenging time! I can’t wait to go shopping at Target, and I even shared some of the cookies with Mr. Nosewicz. πŸ™‚

Next, I forgot to include this last week, but look at Mahdi going above and beyond by doing the Mystery Science activity! Awesome job- it turned out great!

Reminders for today: Please check Google Classroom for your edulastic Topic A decimal quiz. It shouldn’t take you very long. Remember, just try your best!

Please continue to follow our calendar for the rest of today’s activities. See you all real soon!

Monday, May 4

Hi everyone!

First, a giant shoutout to those who completed all the work last week: Mohammed Z., Ali Y., Jake, Celine, Hussein, Xavier, Kadi, Mia, Julia, Maya, Jonah, Mohamed D., Abraham, Mahdi, and Jana! I am SO proud of your hard work!

I hope you enjoyed some time outside this weekend. The weather was absolutely perfect!

Here is a look at this week’s calendar:

Shhh, don’t tell your moms about the Mother’s Day poem you will be writing for them. It will be a nice surprise πŸ™‚ We will talk about that more on Tuesday.

Important things to remember: Girls, you will be meeting Tuesday at 12 PM. Boys, you will be meeting Tuesday at 1 PM. We will be meeting through iLearn like we did last week on Thursday. Many of you have already shared your business projects with me via email or through pictures, which is awesome! Please be ready to present your work. If you did a Google Slides presentation, I will be able to share my screen for you to present.

There was a little confusion with completing the Mystery Science assessment on Google Slides. I will be sure to talk about that and give some more instruction when we meet Tuesday.

ReadWorks/Flocabulary: Remember that the writing you do on these two resources goes towards your writing grade. Thank you for remembering to use complete sentences, restating the question, including text evidence, using capital letters and punctuation, etc.

Math: You have a quiz tomorrow. I am posting the review below for you to complete on Khan Academy. Topic A Decimal Review You do not have to log in to complete this. It is just for you to practice. πŸ™‚ You will also notice that we have changed Friday’s math lesson to a “catch-up day.” We will try to do this each week. You may use this time to catch up on the week’s lessons, and practice your skills on Khan Academy or Moby Max. I also recommend practicing multiplication facts with a parent so you still have them fresh in your mind for next year!

That’s it for now. I think it will be a great week! Please email me with any questions πŸ™‚

Friday, May 1

WOW! I can’t believe it is May today. I am hoping for a beautiful weekend so that Mr. Nosewicz and I can work in the yard. πŸ™‚ I hope that you all enjoy time outside with your families, too, and focus on doing some fun things!!

First, a few shout-outs. I had SO many of you log onto iLearn yesterday without any problems. Thank you, thank you, thank you for following the instructions and for giving it a try! I was so excited to see so many faces. This means we can continue with our meetings using the iLearn platform every week, and go back to our regularly scheduled virtual meetings. I look forward to you sharing your projects next week.

I already mentioned how so many people had shared their projects with me so far!! Mona created the most amazing coffee shop that I would want to visit! Maya created an awesome salon. Julia made a layout of a medical office! I already mentioned these in a previous blog post, but Mahdi is selling yummy junk food, Hussein is selling cars, Jacob made a whole goalie camp!! I cannot wait to see the rest. I am proud of everyone’s hard work.

Before the weekend, try to finish up the week’s assignments so you can just relax and have fun Saturday and Sunday!

Several of you have turned in the Mystery Science assessment on Google Classroom. Please don’t forget to hit ‘turn in’ when you are done, so I know you are ready for me to grade and give you feedback. Remember, you do not have to do the activity, but you can send me a photo if you do give it a try!

Check to be sure you have caught up on Zearn, and that your ReadWorks/Flocabulary are done for the week, as well.

I am so proud of you all- you are learning to be so independent, to read carefully, and to problem solve. These are important skills that will help you for the rest of your life!
