Mr. Nack, I apologize for how late this is but what are Camp Followers? I can’t seem to find it anywhere in the book. Also, what role did women play in the revolution?
Camp followers were people (usually woman) who follow armies around as the fighting goes on. They typically provide services for the army… cooking, laundry, mending clothes, etc.
Women also were spies and worked to provide goods and services for the army.
Mr. Nack, I apologize for the late night asking because I was having difficulties answering the numbers 38-40 for chapter 8.
38. How did the colonists view international views? What was the Model Treaty and who was one of the chief authors?
39. How did enlightenment views affect the American leaders in their view of international affairs?
40. How did Benjamin Franklin’s appearance represent the diplomatic revolution they hoped to achieve?
38. That the revolution would bring about an end to military conflict would be abandoned and mutual commercial interest would guarantee peaceful relations. Model Treaty was an outline for how Americans should negotiate with foreign countries (such as France). John Adam was chief author.
39. The colonists supported free trade, an end to the mercantilism system, end to colonialism, supported free trade, and freedom of the seas in international affairs.
40. Franklin discarded his wig (very popular at the time and very British), deliberately violated every diplomatic behavioral norm, wore homespun (homemade) clothing. He looked very American… American agriculturist. The people of France loved his American vibe.
Hey Mr.Nack, do we have to define all the terms to know & people to know on paper or can we just study them?
I would define them… know how they apply or what role they played in the time period that we have been discussing.
