CoVID-19 – Coronavirus

In recent news, there are two confirmed cases of Corona-virus in the state of Michigan; one in Oakland county and one in Wayne county. After talking to my local pediatrician, I found out that the Corona-virus is a new strain of the common cold virus. Since it is new, we do not have immunity to it or a vaccination to prevent it. Please see the precautions to take below. But most of all, it is important to educate ourselves about the virus in order to understand what is accurate in the media portrayal as well as what we can to do prevent the spreading.

Classroom Procedures

Since the beginning of the year, we have been taking precautions to reduce the spread of all viruses and illnesses. I wanted to share these procedures so everyone is aware of a snapshot of what we do on a regular basis.

  • Washing hands upon entry of the classroom (beginning of the day, after outside times, etc)
  • Washing hands before and after meals, after bathroom usage, or when necessary
  • Using district provided sanitizer to clean all surfaces multiple times a day
  • Fresh air twice a day for 30 minutes
  • Prompting children to wash their hands if they are touching their face
  • Classroom thoroughly cleaned by janitor after the school day
  • Using district provided sanitizer to clean toys after use
  • Wiping down chairs, cots, and tables at the end of the day

Reminders

  • Please keep your child home if they are showing signs of any illness
  • If you are keeping your child home from school, message me on Remind or call the office!
  • The sign out sheet will be placed at our hallway table as a precaution, please sign and drop off your child
  • Frequently wash your hands for 20 seconds
  • When soap and water are not available use hand sanitizer
  • Don’t touch your face
  • Keep a social distance of six feet away
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue
  • Frequently clean highly touched surfaces

Facts about the Virus

Some key points from the images I would like to point out is that most cases are mild and majority of the patients recover. The most people at risk are elderly people and those with preexisting conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The death rate is lower than the Seasonal Flu and Common Cold, 3.4%.

Mrs. Modica’s Post Regarding GSRP Classrooms

A Message from the Principal regarding COVID-19

Dear Dearborn GSRP Families,

With the latest COVID-19 pandemic now infiltrating Michigan it is best we still to the facts and don’t pay attention to all of the “false” news on social media, but instead educate ourselves and parents regarding the science behind the virus.  Please access the Wayne County Health Department at the following URL for the most up to date information:

https://www.waynecounty.com/departments/hhvs/wellness/novel-coronavirus-information.aspx

I also want to share the steps that we are continue to take in each of GSRP classrooms to support a healthy environment for our students.

  • Our custodians will continue to clean and disinfect all surface areas including desks, tables, door handles, and other classroom items.

  • We will have teachers serving the food to students during breakfast, lunch and snack.

  • All food will be served by the teacher directly to the student for the time being.

  • Students and staff continue to wash hands regularly throughout the day.

Good hygiene practices will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. Please follow these recommendations and encourage all family members to do the same.

  • Stay home if you are sick, and advise others to do the same.

  • Always cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue or sleeve.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and warm water are not available.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
