Class Info

6th Grade Global Studies

Students will learn about the 5 themes of Geography: Movement, Region, Human Environment Interaction, Location, and Place.  They will refer back to these themes throughout the course to help them learn about different parts of the world. We will explore different cultures and patterns of human settlement.  They will discover how to read and use maps; also how to create maps for different purposes. Students will also be introduced to the basics of Civics, Government, and Economics.

 

7th Grade Ancient World History

Students will review the tools and mental constructs used by historians and geographers.  They will develop an understanding of Ancient World History.  Students will conduct investigations about past and present global issues.  Using significant content knowledge, research, and inquiry, they will analyze the issue and propose a plan for the future.  As part of the inquiry, they will compose civic, persuasive essays using reasoned argument.

In this class we will study ancient civilizations.  We will learn about the beginnings of human society. We will be introduced to early cultures and the emergence of pastoral people.  We will explore classical traditions, world religions, and major empire.  Students will analyze global issues from ancient times and make connections to modern day issues.
