I went into the school today with my mask and gloves to prepare some supplies for you.

The Module 5 and 6 math books will be available for pickup soon. Along with dry erase boards. Hopefully the books will make math a bit easier. They will include the homework helpers and templates.

Pick up Date planned: Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Distribution: 12:00-3:00 pm

Distribution staging Site – Vestibule: Tables will be set up and materials can be spread out well for social distancing.

  • Persons walking up will have a designated waiting area on the sidewalk while maintaining a 6 foot distance.
  • As parents walk up, they will let workers know what grade/s students are in. A designated person will check off families that pick up a supply bag and students’ materials.
  • Let me know if you need more clarification.

I have been working with the district program BigBlueButton this week to try and get our live meetings back up. Once I master it, I will try to teach the children the ins and outs of the program.

I miss all my kiddos so much!! Thank you for your patience and flexibility in these strange times.

Moving Forward

Hello,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the district will no longer allow classes to use Google Meets. We will not be able to meet face to face on that platform moving forward. We will be using iLearn and BigBlueButton. The district has provided these learning platforms. I must master them first before I can teach the children. Please have the students continue to complete any Google Classroom work they have not finished. I will have more information for you tomorrow and Tuesday.

We will get through this together!!

Hello!

I have the approved grading policy from Dr. Malayko.

Dearborn Public Schools Parent/Student Grading Information

During the Continuity of Learning

Individual teachers will be responsible for assessing student progress and providing feedback.  Assignments will be graded and entered in MiStar.  Work completed prior to April 20th that demonstrates a student’s mastery of learning will count toward his/her grade.

Elementary Assessment and Grading Guidelines

For this marking period, students will receive feedback on weekly assignments in the form of narrative comments.

  • Meeting:  regularly submitted work and attended check-ins
  • Accuracy of work assessed on standards/graded
  • High participation
  • Progressing:  Submitted most assignments and attended some of the check-ins
  • Limited Participation:  little or no participation due to circumstances shared with teacher

Please contact your Mrs. Waddell or myself if you have any questions about this grading procedure or need further information.

Happy Learning!!!

Okay! So, as we get into 4th quarter even though we are remote learning, consistency and accountability for the children is more important than ever. I do not have an approved district document for you yet, but I do know that the district and state expectation is students should be working for 20 minutes per day, per subject. So, that’s 20 minutes of Science, 20 minutes of Social Studies, 20 Minutes of ELA, and 20 minutes of math.

A grading system for fourth quarter is being determined this week. I will have more information for you as it is given to me. Many of you already have your “at-home school time” schedules in place. Please make sure this includes 20 minutes of each subject. This does not mean assignments need to be completed in that amount of time. However, students should be working on the assignment for a minimum of 20 minutes per day.

I have allotted time in the assignments. 100 minutes a week is assigned to each. To hold the students accountable they will have the whole week to finish. Some parts of the assignment will take less than 20 minutes. Have your child work on them as you see fit. Please do not rush through assignments to get them done in one day.

I am available to schedule one-on-one time with students through google meet to clarify any topics. If you need further resources to help the students at home let me know.

I know this is a lot, email me with any questions you may have. I will have concrete documentation for you as soon as possible.

Governor Whitmer’s Decision

Good Morning,

I felt it was important to notify you of the current status for the continuation of academics in Dearborn. Governor Whitmer announced today that Michigan schools would close for the remainder of the school year unless the peak of the Corona Virus happens sooner than expected.

So what does this mean for us?

Dearborn Principals have already been working on a plan to prepare the children for the next school year. A solid plan will be in place by the end of Spring Break. I will be updating my blog as soon as I have further information.

I’m working on a plan for fifth grade promotion, and a way to celebrate the students’ final year at Whitmore, while adhering to social distancing guidelines. I am saddened that the fifth grade will miss these traditions, but we will figure out a way to make them happen from a far, or in the future. I will be continuing to work with the students, and provide enrichment on google classroom.

I miss everyone greatly, and am here for you anytime.
