Fruit Loop Fun!!

One of our goals in math is to count. Let’s make it fun by using fruit loops to count, sort and then practice patterning.

A white plate with multiple color fruit loops on the plate
Start with a bowl or Plate of Fruit Loops with NO MILK

Have your child count as how many Fruit Loops are on the plate

You can practice sorting the Fruit Loops into separate color piles

A white plate with fruit loops sorted by color showing small groups of yellow, red, purple, blue and green fruit loops

Pick two colors and make a pattern

A white plate with a small group of blue fruit loops and small group of yellow fruit loops. Then a line of patterned fruit loop yellow, blue, yellow, blue, yellow, blue

(if I know they need additional activity)
Try making this pattern

A white plate with a pattern of orange and green fruit loops. Patter is one orange, two green, one orange, two green

or a pattern with three colors

Do You Need a Chromebook?

Teachers have provided daily on-line enrichment activities for students to complete while we are out of school. It has been brought to my attention, that we have some students who do not have access to a computer, tablet, or phone device to participate in these activities. With support from Dearborn Schools, we are extending an opportunity for our students with this need to borrow a Chromebook from Howe School until we return from the shutdown.

Chromebooks will be made available for drive-through pick-up on Friday, March 20 from 9:00-11:00 under the Ann Arbor Trail canopy at Howe School.

At this time we can only provide 1 Chromebook per family to be shared by all Howe students in the family.

You will need to have access to wireless internet or a hotspot to use the Chromebook in your home

A parent MUST be present and sign a copy of this form to receive a Chromebook. The form will be provided at pick-up. Please read for more information.

To reserve a Chromebook:

If you would like to borrow a Chromebook, please complete this form. This will help us to facilitate the process and ensure availability. Remember, you will need to have access to wireless internet or a hot spot to use the Chromebook in your household.

If you have questions regarding Chromebook Lending contact Ms. Fournier at fournit@dearbornschools.org.

ABCmouse Free Home Access

Hello Families,

To help our families during the next month, ABCmouse has offered schools free home access. This is a program that reinforces the skills taught in the classroom and is enjoyable for students.

When in-school learning isn’t possible, using research-based learning resources at home can help children stay engaged, provide them valuable learning experiences, and maintain some continuity in their lives.

By visiting this link www.ABCmouse.com/redeem and redeem your access code The code is: SCHOOL4638

If you need assistance redeeming this code or have questions, please contact the Age of Learning Customer Support team at support@aofl.com and they will be happy to help.

Hope everyone is doing well and please continue working on the daily activities on this blog.

Respectfully,

Ms. Fontana

Think Green Today

  1. Ask your child to go and find 5 items in your house that are GREEN! *Following Directions
  2. Talk about the 5 items they found and what we do with them. For example: A green pepper is for putting on our salad. *This helps with Oral Language
  3. Have your child draw a picture of each object. *This is a small motor activity
  4. Have your child try to write the first letter of each object next to their picture. *Letter Sounds
  5. Send a picture of their work to someone in the family or their teacher and wish them a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! *This will make someone’s day!

Free Breakfast and Lunch Pick Up for Students

Dearborn Public Schools is offering free pickup lunch and breakfast for students while school is closed for the mandatory shut down over the next three weeks.

Families will be able to stop in and pick up a bag with both breakfast and lunch for each child in the family.  Pickups will run daily from 10 a.m. to noon starting today, March 17 at Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn High schools, McCollough-Unis, Salina Intermediate, and Woodworth Middle School.

Signage at each site will direct parents and students where to enter the building. Food will be near entrances to minimize the amount of time community members spend in the facilities.

Please note, meals are available to anyone age 18 and younger.  Students do not need to be present, and the Dearborn School student does not need to attend at that building.  A designated person can collect meals for multiple children.  Meals for Saturday and Sunday can be picked up on Friday.

The program will allow the District’s 20,700 students to continue to have access to healthy food.  Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week ordered all Michigan schools closed from March 16 through April 3 to slow the spread of novel coronavirus and cases of COVID-19.  Dearborn Schools is scheduled for spring break April 6 to 10, so school will not resume in the District until April 13.

The grab-and-go meals will be served at least through April 3.

Superintendent Glenn Maleyko praised the District’s food service team for quickly implementing this drastic change in service to meet the needs of families.

“We appreciate the patience of our families and community as we all try to adjustto this sudden change from closing schools,” Dr. Maleyko said.  “More than three quarters of our students qualify for free or reduced priced school meals.  We realize this food is important to our families, many of whom may be facing additional financial hardships from the sudden economic changes related to COVID-19.”

Check the Dearborn Public Schools website at http://www.dearbornschools.org for any updates or changes to the meal program or for other issues regarding the school closure.

Welcome

An important Message from Dearborn Public Schools

Greetings,

All Dearborn Public Schools will be closed for students effective immediately, March 13, 2020. This is a result of Governor Whitmer’s order to close all K-12 school buildings, public, private, and boarding, starting Monday, March 16 until Sunday, April 5.

Dearborn Public Schools spring break will take place from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10. Students will return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Students may report on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the normal start time to pick up their belongings and school supplies.

All staff should report on Friday, March 13, 2020 to assist students. Staff will only attend for the morning half of the day followed by a half day release time.

As of Thursday, 3-12-2020 there are no reported or confirmed cases of COVID 19 in the Dearborn Public Schools.

This closure of schools is part of a nationwide effort to slow the spread of the COVID 19 virus. These actions will not eliminate the COVID 19 virus, cure COVID 19, and this will not guarantee that a person will not contract the COVID virus at a later time. Again, these actions are part of a nationwide effort to slow the spread and limit the number of people who will become infected.

Thank you
