This week, students learned several new concepts for understanding Informational texts. We started the week taking notes on Costa’s Levels of thinking and Questioning. The notes for this are available on google classroom. Students basically learned how to tell the difference between easy questions (Level One Questions) and more challenging questions (Levels Two and Three). Students were then asked to define 10 of the words they were given and create a one-pager displaying their understanding of the various levels of questioning related to one word. Details for this assignment are available on google classroom.
Next, students learned new terms related to understanding text features and Author’s Bias. All these notes are also available on google classroom. The week ended with an introduction to Peter Benchley, the author who wrote “Jaws”. Students will be reading an article written by him in the coming week to prepare them for there unit exam this coming Tuesday.
