Important Announcement!

Dear Parents,

Please be sure to check parent connect periodically late work that has not been submitted. All assignments listed as “not graded” will be updated by Sunday evening. The end of the card-marking is in two weeks (3/29/19). Please email me with any questions 🙂

9/24-9/28

This week, students learned several new concepts for understanding Informational texts. We started the week taking notes on Costa’s Levels of thinking and Questioning. The notes for this are available on google classroom. Students basically learned how to tell the difference between easy questions (Level One Questions) and more challenging questions (Levels Two and Three). Students were then asked to define 10 of the words they were given and create a one-pager displaying their understanding of the various levels of questioning related to one word. Details for this assignment are available on google classroom.

Next, students learned new terms related to understanding text features and Author’s Bias. All these notes are also available on google classroom. The week ended with an introduction to Peter Benchley, the author who wrote “Jaws”. Students will be reading an article written by him in the coming week to prepare them for there unit exam this coming Tuesday.

9/17-9/21

Good Evening Parents,

Attached are brief notes on major assignments and activities that were completed this week:

Monday the 17th through Wednesday the 19th, students completed the Reading Assessment on the NWEA.

On Thursday, students completed their team flags and also took a short pre-assessment on what they believe CER is. Students received a two part grade for completing their quick-write for that day and also the pre-assessment. The grade is in the grade book as, “Quick-write/CER Preassessment” (10 point assignment)

On Friday, students took notes on CER and constructed “The Argumentative Handbook.” Students will be taking detailed notes in this handbook the next several weeks during our argumentative writing unit.

Thank you!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Weekly Summary for 9/10-9/14:

No major assignments were due this week. On Monday and Tuesday, students worked on a common assessment related to argumentative writing. This assessment is a pre-test for our upcoming argumentative unit.

Wednesday through Friday, Students were grouped into teams to create Team Flags. The goal of this assignment was to strengthen our classroom community by unifying ourselves. Students did not complete this today, so they will have time to work on it next week.

If all assignments from last week have been turned in, there is no homework for students to work on this weekend. The only thing I would say is to get a good night’s rest sunday as we will be taking the Reading NWEA test Monday through Wednesday.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Extra Credit opportunities were:
