Reading/writing  We worked on the letter Rr. Please continue helping your child write their first and last name at home.  We are continuing with writer’s workshop and are learning how to draw a picture and label it or write about it.  The children are starting to stretch and listen to a word then write what letter they hear.  I am so proud of all of them!!! Students should be practicing identifying the letters of the alphabet.  Many of the students are making excellent progress! Keep practicing your letters and sounds. I will be testing the students weekly to see how many letters they can identify.  In order for your child to be ready for kindergarten they must be able to identify all capital and lowercase letters and make the sound of every letter.  DONT FORGET TO DO READING EGGS AT HOME 3 DAYS A WEEK. I will be giving “hoots” to students who do Reading Eggs at home.

Math   We continue to work on shapes and numbers 0-5 .We made jack-o-lanterns with squares, triangles, circles and rectangles. Folders

Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!

Behvaior log and chart

Dear Parents,

Here at Haigh, we use the Positive Behavior Support System (PBIS) as our school wide behavior plan. We are excited about this system and how it will provide our students with a consistent, fair, and positive behavior plan.  We have been practicing our classroom rules and routines and are ready to start using our behavior chart.  Every morning your child’s card will start on an owl.  When the rules are not followed, they will have to flip their card to yellow, and so on if the behavior continues.  Special area teachers will be using the PBIS plan in their classrooms.

Your child will bring home a  HOMEWORK  FOLDER  EVERYDAY.  In the folder is a communication log with a place for reporting behavior.  It is the first column on the communication log. This folder will be a DAILY behavior report.  Each day I will let you know how your child behaved as a student and as a member of our class.  Children will need to bring their folder back to school every day.

Here are the Positive Behavior colors and their consequences.

OWL:   Doing their absolute best     (The box will be left empty or white to indicate they stayed on owl)

YELLOW:  Verbal warning

BLUE:  Ten minute time out in the room or at recess and a note home

RED:  See the principal

If there is a color in the box I will write a brief note explaining why they flipped their card.

We will begin using the chart in our classroom on October 2, 2017.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Mrs. Vensko
