Agenda for the week

The children loved Pete the Cat.  We had many discussion about the play and their favorite parts.  The were very well behaved both on the bus and in the theater.  I am very proud of all of them!!!

The winter weather has arrived.  Please label all of your child’s winter clothing.  If your child wears boots to school, please send in a pair of dry shoes to wear in the classroom. Please help your child to learn to zip, unzip, put on hats, mittens, coats, boots and snow pants by themselves. Parents will not be allowed in the building to help their child.   Remember, we are trying to teach independence.

Reading/writing  We worked on the letter Ll.   We began introducing sight words.  We learned the word I and practiced using it in our writer’s workshop writings. Each week we learn a new sight word. Please continue helping your child write their first and last name at home.  We are continuing with writer’s workshop and are learning how to draw a picture and label it or write about it.   We are learning to stretch our words and write the sounds we here and we are learning to put a period at the end of our sentence. Keep practicing your letters and sounds.DON’T FORGET TO DO READING EGGS AT HOME 3 DAYS A WEEK. I will be giving “hoots” to students who do Reading Eggs at home.  We are learning about characters and setting in our stories.

 

Math  We are working on sorting and measurement.   We will continue working on numbers from 0-20. Please  have your child work on Math Seeds 3 days a week.  We are working on counting to 20. We are learning to show the value of a number in different ways.  We are using our fingers, ten frames and tally marks to represent a number. We are playing math games in math workshop to help us learn numbers and their values.

Social  Studies  We are learning the difference between goods and services.  We turned the kitchen into a restaurant to help understand the concept of a service.

Science   We are learning about the 4 seasons.  We did a season sort activity and colored a poster to illustrate what the four seasons look like. We will record and graph the weather for the whole month of December.

Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!

Reading/writing  We worked on the letter Bb. We are learning to identify the upper and lowercase letter and make the sound of Bb.  . Please continue helping your child write their first and last name at home.  We began writer’s workshop and are learning how to draw a picture and label it or write about it. Students should be practicing identifying the letters of the alphabet. Students should be able to make the sound of each letter.  I will be testing the students weekly to see how many letters they can identify.  In order for your child to be ready for kindergarten they must be able to identify all capital and lowercase letters and make the sound of every letter.  Please have your child work on reading eggs at least 3 days a week. We did a R.A.N strategy. R.A.N stands for reading and analyzing nonfiction.  We read nonfiction stories about spiders and picked out key facts about spiders.  We wrote an interesting fact and labeled the parts of a spider.  DONT FORGET TO DO READING EGGS AT HOME 3 DAYS A WEEK.

 

Math   We continue to work on shapes and numbers 0-5. Your student should be able to identify the number and show me how many for each number 0-5. Please  have your child work on Math Seeds 3 days a week.

Social  Studies  We are learning about how to be a good citizen.  We are learning to share and take our turn. We are working on classroom routines and cafeteria behavior.

Science  We learned about spiders and watched videos on how they spin a web. Next we will be learning about pumpkins and push and pull.

We just received a subscription for math seeds. Access to this program is through readingeggs.com

Login to reading eggs with your child’s same login information as usual and you will see three icons:

Math Seeds

Please have your child use Reading Eggs and Math Seeds several times per week. Reading Eggspress is more appropriate for 2nd grade and up.

Math seeds is a wonderful program just like reading eggs that will help your child learn how to count, add, subtract, and much more!

Please integrate reading eggs and math seeds into your nightly routine as a part of your child’s homework!

If you misplaced your child’s reading eggs password, please send me an email and I will be happy to send you that information again.

Reading/writing We are listening to stories and making predictions and asking questions about what will happen next in the story. We worked on the letter Dd.  We learned a poem about  a dragon. Please continue helping your child write their first and last name at home.  We began writer’s workshop and are learning how to draw a picture and label it or write about it. Students should be practicing identifying the letters of the alphabet. On Monday,  I will be sending home flash cards for the capital and lowercase letters.  You can use them like flash cards, your child can make their name with the cards or you can have them match the capital letter with the lower case letter. Students should be able to make the sound of each letter.  I will be testing the students weekly to see how many letters they can identify.  In order for your child to be ready for kindergarten they must be able to identify all capital and lowercase letters and make the sound of every letter.  Please have your child work on reading eggs at least 3 days a week.

 

Math   Next week , we will continue to work on shapes and numbers 0-5. We are learning to write and recognize the numbers.  Please  have your child work on Math Seeds 3 days a week.

Social  Studies  We are learning about how to be responsible for ourselves at school.  We are earning “Hoots” for good behavior.

Science  We are continuing our unit on apples. We are going to make apples sauce next week. We learned about what is inside an apple.

Math   We began learning about shapes and will continue to work on them next week.

Social  Studies  We are learning the classroom and school rules and practicing being a good citizen at school.

Science  We finished our unit on the 5 senses.  We became scientists today.  We asked questions, made a hypothesis, and did experiments with apples to test our hypothesis.
