Valentine Cards

Dear Parents,

If you would like to send in Valentine’s with your child to pass out to the class, please be aware of the following:

  1. Valentine’s should be prepared at home with the “To:” left blank and the “From:” filled in with your child’s name. It takes far too long for your child to try to read each child’s name and pass it out to them, which is why I ask that you leave the “To:” blank.
  2. There are 17 students in class. Please make sure to send one valentine for each child!
  3. Please do not create boy valentine’s and girl valentine’s as it complicates the process of passing all of them out!

Thank you for your assistance in helping our Valentine activities run smoothly!

Reading/writing  We are learning to write by drawing a picture and labeling it.  We are learning to stretch out our words and write down the sounds we hear. Please help your child to listen for the beginning sounds of the words when they are writing at home. Our letter of the week next week will be  O o. We are learning to identify the letter, write it and learn it’s sound. We are learning how to do Daily 5. We are practicing read to self, word work, work on writing, listen to reading and read to someone. Please read to your child everyday. We are learning about fiction and nonfiction stories.

We learned that there are three ways to read a book. 1) read the words 2) read the pictures 3) retell the story using their own words.

We will work in small group instruction during our Daily 5 time and Math workshop.

Math   We are working on subtraction using pictures and counters.

Social  Studies  We are learning about what history means and how things happened long ago.

Science We are learning about weather and climates and how animals live in the different climates.

Snack

Snacks should be healthy to provide the children with energy for their day. Please send a simple snack such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, and crackers. Please do not send candy as a snack. Juice and milk are not allowed in our classroom. Please do not send any kind of juice box or milk with your child for snack time. The children may have the juice or milk for lunch in the cafeteria.

Home folder

Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log each day.
