Agenda for the week

Reading/writing  We worked on the letter Rr. Please continue helping your child write their first and last name at home.  We are continuing with writer’s workshop and are learning how to draw a picture and label it or write about it.  The children are starting to stretch and listen to a word then write what letter they hear.  I am so proud of all of them!!! Students should be practicing identifying the letters of the alphabet.  Many of the students are making excellent progress! Keep practicing your letters and sounds. I will be testing the students weekly to see how many letters they can identify.  In order for your child to be ready for kindergarten they must be able to identify all capital and lowercase letters and make the sound of every letter.  DONT FORGET TO DO READING EGGS AT HOME 3 DAYS A WEEK. I will be giving “hoots” to students who do Reading Eggs at home.

Math   We continue to work on shapes and numbers 0-5 .We made jack-o-lanterns with squares, triangles, circles and rectangles. Your student should be able to identify the number and show me how many for each number 0-5. Please  have your child work on Math Seeds 3 days a week.  We are working on patterns and counting to 20. I am giving “hoots” to students who do Math Seeds at home.

Social  Studies  We are learning about how to be a good citizen.  We are learning to share and take our turn. We are working on classroom routines and cafeteria behavior.  We are using puppets to model how to be a good citizen.

Science  We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. We read informational books and watched science videos to learn about growing pumpkins.  Ask your child to use their project to explain the life cycle of a pumpkin to you.  Next week will be doing push and pull experiments.

Folders

Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!

Snack   Please remember to send only healthy snacks like fruit, vegetables, and cheese and crackers.  PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN CANDY OR CHIPS FOR SNACK.
