Agenda for the week
The children loved Pete the Cat. We had many discussion about the play and their favorite parts. The were very well behaved both on the bus and in the theater. I am very proud of all of them!!!
The winter weather has arrived. Please label all of your child’s winter clothing. If your child wears boots to school, please send in a pair of dry shoes to wear in the classroom. Please help your child to learn to zip, unzip, put on hats, mittens, coats, boots and snow pants by themselves. Parents will not be allowed in the building to help their child. Remember, we are trying to teach independence.
Reading/writing We worked on the letter Ll. We began introducing sight words. We learned the word I and practiced using it in our writer’s workshop writings. Each week we learn a new sight word. Please continue helping your child write their first and last name at home. We are continuing with writer’s workshop and are learning how to draw a picture and label it or write about it. We are learning to stretch our words and write the sounds we here and we are learning to put a period at the end of our sentence. Keep practicing your letters and sounds.DON’T FORGET TO DO READING EGGS AT HOME 3 DAYS A WEEK. I will be giving “hoots” to students who do Reading Eggs at home. We are learning about characters and setting in our stories.
Math We are working on sorting and measurement. We will continue working on numbers from 0-20. Please have your child work on Math Seeds 3 days a week. We are working on counting to 20. We are learning to show the value of a number in different ways. We are using our fingers, ten frames and tally marks to represent a number. We are playing math games in math workshop to help us learn numbers and their values.
Social Studies We are learning the difference between goods and services. We turned the kitchen into a restaurant to help understand the concept of a service.
Science We are learning about the 4 seasons. We did a season sort activity and colored a poster to illustrate what the four seasons look like. We will record and graph the weather for the whole month of December.
Please make sure to empty the green folders each night! It is very difficult and time consuming to locate homework or important notes when the folder is full of papers from the day before. Remember to initial the communication log and feel free to add any notes to me!
Snack Please remember to send only healthy snacks like fruit, vegetables, and cheese and crackers.
