Hello all! Hopefully you have had a chance to review Dr. Maleyko’s statements on the Dearborn Schools website regarding our distance learning plan going forward. Districts received guidelines from the state and had to have their plans approved by the intermediate school district (for us that is Wayne RESA).
Here are the highlights of how this applies to Kindergarten/Y5s:
- Your student will receive 10-15 minutes of activities per subject per day. The core subjects we are looking at with this are: reading, writing, math and social studies/science.
- Tasks and online lessons will be presented in various formats Monday-Thursday with Fridays being focused on catching up on tasks throughout the week and special area work. I would also like for you to take some time and cater to your child’s social emotional well being and do things like puzzles, walks, watch a movie together, have a spa day, etc. hence the more free flowing schedule of Fridays.
- You can complete the google classroom activities in any order you like just as you’ve been doing now. I will no longer be uploading assignments for “morning work”
- Tasks must be marked as “turned in” once you have finished them. You should start to upload assignments and return them to me electronically for feedback.
- We will be taking attendance at all Google Hangouts. Students who are not logging into the meetings may be contacted via phone or email by myself, support staff or Ms. Tiba.
- We will shoot for 2 Hangouts a week. We will continue with our Wednesday 1 pm slot. You will find the link to join via blog or your student’s email or Remind…or all of those! Lol!
- When we are all in the Google Hangout, I will ask that your child bring a writing utensil and paper to each session. It’s not like our regular room where I can change gears and say “oh go grab your journal or whiteboard and marker” so let’s plan on something handy just in case.
- As student need arises, I will be contacting some of you who may need some extra support for your child’s needs. If your child was seeing Mrs. Murray or any of our other support team, you will be hearing from them separately to ensure services continue.
- I will be having office hours twice per week. This is the area where I am unable to commit to a schedule today. If you received my Remind message you saw the picture of the board I’m using for my kids’ schedule and I’m waiting to hear back from 6 core subject teachers as of right now. You may always email me or send me a text through Remind with any question (Remind is faster if you need a more immediate response) until I can get a more definite time for you.
- If you don’t have the Remind app, you should consider putting it on your phone. Join the class called “Muston’s Kindergarten”.
- Really, #11…oh boy! Just remember we’ve got this! I know some of you are still working as you are essential employees, I know some of you are not working and that greatly stresses you out, I know that no day is going to be perfect and I know that we will learn and grow through this together!!
