Good morning! Yesterday we began using our PBIS color chart for behavior. PBIS stands for positive behavior intervention and support. This program focuses on rewarding students for doing the right thing. There are some times, however, where a student may have to “move their clip” for behavior infractions.
The students can move up and down on the chart daily depending on their choices. As of now I am giving 1-2 warnings before moving a clip as we are still learning LOTS about rules and expectations in every area of the school. The ones I am monitoring most right now are staying on task and talking/interrupting the teacher.
Along with PBIS we use the Leader In Me Seven Habits. This month is Habit 1: Be Proactive. This means that you are in charge of you! I’m working with the kids on taking responsibility for their own choices in learning (ex. we don’t blame anyone for our own choices, positive mindset, discussing our feelings).
At the end of every month there is a behavior celebration! Students need to have 4 days on yellow (warning and clip move) or orange (time out, loss of privilege, or note home) to qualify for this month’s party. In the future we will be using a behavior calendar located in the back of the folders so you can see how your child did daily (we are working up to being ready for this!).
Please reinforce these skills at home! Thanks!
