Happy Monday!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather! Especially with the dreary weather we are having today!

I wanted to let you all know that since we will not be doing Learning Labs in person as we hoped, we will be doing them virtually. For this week, we are going to do them one on one through Zoom. This will allow me to spend some time getting to know your child a little better than I can in the whole group. I was able to schedule everyone 2 one on one sessions this week.

THIS WILL START TOMORROW TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 29th.

I know that it is really busy with other kids also doing online school and that many parents are working too. If your time does not work, please let me know and we can see about moving it to a time that does work. Remember, this schedule is for THIS WEEK ONLY and we will work on setting up group times for next week.

We will use the SAME ZOOM link as we do for the morning meeting. In fact, I am going to change the name of that to just “Zoom link” to make it easier. ALWAYS USE THAT LINK for any zoom sessions that we have.

A few minutes before your child’s scheduled time, you can log in and they will enter the waiting room. I will “let them in” to the Zoom meeting with me at the scheduled time. I scheduled everyone for 15 minutes so please be on time so we can stick to the schedule as much as possible.

If you could, please email me (or use WhatsApp) and let me know what your child’s favorite book or character is. I will do my best to have that book (or one like it) so we can read it together.

Here is the schedule:

Again, if the scheduled time does not work to get your child on Zoom, please let me know ASAP and we will get it changed.

Thank you for all you do for your child!

A note from our new principal!

Dear Parents/Guardians of Snow Elementary,

It is with great pleasure and an honor to serve you as the new principal of Snow Elementary School beginning October 1st of this year. I look forward to meeting all of you and working alongside the community.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich legacy of success and so many points of pride. I have dedicated my career to the students of Dearborn for the last 16 years. I started my career as an elementary classroom teacher then moved on to an elementary resource teacher/instructional coach at Salina intermediate. I then moved on to be a middle school bilingual resource teacher and have spent the last four years as Assistant principal at Woodworth Middle School. I am eager to dedicate my skills to the Snow community.

As all of us embark on the upcoming school year we do so for the first time with high levels of uncertainty due to the current international crisis we all know as Covid-19. This has affected all of us in so many ways. Our students and community as a whole have had to encounter many hardships as a result. However, this will not deter our mission to make this school year the best one ever. I plan on working with parents, teachers, students and the entire Snow community to ensure that our students are safe and learning at high levels. Together we will continue to provide experiences that are rigorous, relevant and with relationships based on trust to prepare them for their future endeavors. As your new principal it is important to me to greet everyone who enters the school with the utmost respect. I have an open door policy and value every stakeholder’s opinion. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns you may have or any points of pride you would like to share.

I look forward to our work together in the years to come and establishing a team committed to the Snow community. Please stay safe and have a great school year.

Sincerely,

Mohammad Abdelfattah

Snow Elementary Principal

First day!

Hello Families!

Thank you so much for helping and assisting your child with the zoom remote learning today! I know this is a very different way of doing Young 5s, but we are making it engaging, educational, and fun together!

Please know that all students are expected to be logged into zoom for the day’s meeting by 8:55. They are to stayed logged in until 1:00. We can turn our cameras and microphones off during lunch and breaks. Your child’s participation on zoom is how I take the morning and afternoon attendance.

Thank you again for the amazing participation and engagement that happened today!

I will see you all at 8:55 tomorrow morning! Don’t forget to email me or message me on WhatsApp to tell me what your child chose for their afternoon.

Are you ready?

Hello Young Fives Families!

I hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend! I was able to spend some time with my family and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Below is a picture of what this week will look like. We will have a lot of fun!

Weekly Overview

We will start everyday at 8:55. Please log in to your child’s Dearborn Account. In the next blog post, I will walk you through logging in!

We decided that since the kiddos are new to zoom, we will log in at 8:55 and will not log out until 2:00. We will not be actively ON ZOOM the whole time, but we didn’t want to have them logging in and out throughout the day. We will practice turning our camera on and off so when they are away from the computer, they can turn the camera off.

If you are having any issues logging in tomorrow, please let me know. I may not be able to answer right away, but will try to help the best I can when there is a break.

I will see you all at 8:55!
