Over the last two weeks, the students have been working very hard on researching and writing about polar bears. Please check out their work in the hallway when you drop off or pick up on Monday.

The students did an amazing job last week researching and writing about penguins. This week we continue with informational writing and will be researching Polar Bears! Below I will post a link to the National Geographic website for kids. They can look at pictures, books, and videos of Polar Bears.

Kindergarten Spelling
This week marks the beginning of the second semester. As part of the Dearborn Public Schools English Language Arts Program, we will now begin administering spelling tests each Friday. The spelling test will include 2 high frequency words we have been working on as well as 6 words with a specific spelling pattern. For example, this week’s words will be from the -at family.
Students will be given 6 words from the -at family to study during the week. Students will be given several opportunities to practice the words at school; however, it is important that they practice at home each night as well. Attached are some flashcards that will help your child study the words. We know this is new for the kids and right now we are focusing on the process not just the test results.
This week’s spelling words are:
cat | mat | hat |
fat | rat | bat |
see | is | at |
Thank you for encouraging your child to practice their spelling words for 5-10 minutes each night.
Sincerely,
Ms. Jacobs, and Mrs. Harrison
We have been working hard researching on the National Geographic for kids website, reading many non-fiction books, listening to books on MYON, and much more to learn facts about penguins!
When you drop off or pick up your child on Monday, come in and let your child show you what they have learned about Penguins! Their writing is posted in the hallway outside our classroom!
Dearborn Public Schools has a great reading resource online at www.dearbornschools.org. Below are the login directions. If you have questions, please let me know.

Writing: We’ve been working on informational writing. This week we wrote about how to build a snowman.
Science: We continue to learn about weather.
Social Studies: This week we have been focusing on different types of goods and services. We spoke about many community helpers and services that we see in our community.
We are still collecting Box Tops for Education. I am sending home another form today for you to tap or glue your box tops to. Thank you for supporting our school!
This is a friendly reminder that tomorrow is a late start day. The school will open at 9:30. Please make sure your child has eaten breakfast and used the bathroom before coming to school.
The children have gym tomorrow, please make sure they either wear gym shoes or bring gym shoes to change into.
With flu season here, if your child has a fever over 100 degrees or is throwing up, they are to stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. If you have questions, please let me know.
