Today is work in your pajama’s day. Please take a picture of your child working in their pajama’s. I am working on something special to share with everyone at the end of the week.

I found virtual activities on the Detroit Zoo website. This week for science and writing, I will have you explore some of the videos. Please see the details in the chart below.

Happy Virtual Spirit Week! Today is McDonald Spirit day. If you do not have a McDonald shirt, you can wear green and/or yellow. Please feel free to e-mail me a picture of your child wearing their spirit wear. I would like to make a picture collage to share. I cannot save pictures off of classdojo so e-mail is best. harrisv@dearbornschools.org

This week, continue working on the online resources. As always, feel free to message or email me with any questions.

Friday, March 20th

Happy Friday! I hope you and your family are doing well and are healthy. I am not adding anything new for today. If you want, you can look at my posts from earlier this week.

A fun thing to check out would be Mo Willems’ (author of the Pigeon books and Piggy and Elephant) daily YouTube videos Lunch Doodles. He posts a new video daily at 1:00pm and you can watch ones from earlier in the week. Below is a link to the introduction. If you follow his page, you can see the rest of the videos.

I have had a few parents ask about MobyMax. When your child first logins, they will be required to take a placement test. Some questions they might know the answer to and others they might not. Just tell them to try their best. Once they test is done, they will be able to complete lessons.

Thursday, March 19th

Yesterday, I sent home login information for a website called RAZ kids. This is a great website to support reading instruction. I have assigned each student a lesson based on their current reading level. Your child will have to read the text and then answer questions based on the text.

I will continue to monitor your students progress daily. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Wednesday, March 18th

I hope everyone is doing well. I have added resources to my blog which include Eureka math workbooks and tip sheets, spelling words, mystery science activities and links to specials teachers blogs. I know many of you have more than one child that needs to complete school work, I do not expect your child to complete everything I am posting. I want to provide a range of activities to select from. I know not everyone does not have easy access to zearn and clever. During this time, it is important that your child complete a math activity, reading a minimum of 25 minutes, and writes daily. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions. Our partnership is key for your child’s success.

Please see the attached link for more help with MobyMax.

With so many states closing all of their schools, classdojo is running extremely slow. You may dojo message me but I may not receive the message for hours. For the time being e-mail is the best form of communication.

My e-mail address is harrisv@dearbornschools.org

Hello Families,

For spelling this week, kindergarten is focusing on the -en word family and 1st grade is focusing on words with a long a. Attached below will be the spelling lists for each grade. Please select the correct grade level.

Kindergarten Words

1st Grade Words

For math, in addition to the assigned MobyMax or zearn, I will attach videos to correspond with the lessons I would be teaching if we were in school. I will also post links to the students workbooks. Each day, Monday-Friday, I will post a new module video and what page numbers go with that module in the workbook. Students can just copy the problems on paper.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. If you need your child’s login information, let me know and I can take a picture and send it to you.

Mrs. Blasko has created some easy things for your child to do to stay fit and healthy with the time off. Please visit the link below for a list of activities the students are familiar with.

Daily Breakdown of Assignments

Hello Everyone!

I am attaching a file detailing weekly expectations of online work. Please read through the entire document. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at harrisv@dearbornschools.org or send me a message through classdojo. I will be posting on here every day or two with expectations. I will be checking the online assignments throughout the week.

Weekly Expectations

Fire Safety

This week we have done a close reading of the book Fire Trucks by Judith Jango-Cohen. After yesterdays fire drill this spurred a lot of discussion about fire safety. Even though it is not fire safety month, I thought it was important to address this important topic. I have told the students to ask you where the fire detectors are in their home and what their fire evacuation plan would be if your home were to catch fire. It is important to have working fire detectors in case of this emergency. Also, have a plan of where everyone in your family should meet if there was a fire (in front of the house, at a neighbors, ect). As home, you could even have a practice fire drill to be on the safe side. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or dojo message me.

Updates and Reminders

We have been busy this past week.

This is what we are learning…

ELA-

Sight Word-The

Letters-Mm, Aa, Tt, Dd

Math-Counting to 5

This week, we started reading groups.  It is very important that your child brings their book bag to school everyday!  In the book bag should be their name, magnet letters of their name, and paper books we have worked on.

This Friday is the first day Kindergarten No School Day.  Grades 1-12 will have school all day Friday.
