Peek at Our Week

Happy Sunday Haigh Families! Please read on to see the updates for this week.

This week we will hopefully finish up our NWEA testing. Please refer to the email sent out on Friday to see if your child’s name is on the list of students needing to finish. Here is the Sign Up Genius link. There will be NO LIVE LESSON on Tuesday only.

Hopefully you are getting a bit more familiar with navigating Schoology. I wanted to point out a few things. Under the green resources tab there is a link to the Zearn website and a link to typing club. On typing club students sign in with their student ID and the password for all is haigh. You will also find the counting songs we do during math which is great review to help students with multiplication. Additionally, you will also find a Weekly Assignments folder that lists the assignments for the week. Please note that assignments may change, so rather than printing this document, it is best to refer back to it to confirm what assignments will be for the day.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please be sure to come on time and prepared to class. Each day your child will need their reading book (Animal Adaptations) , all math books, whiteboard, marker, and a pencil.
  • Mid module math test is tomorrow. Their is a optional study guide under the Friday button that students can print out or refer to while preparing for the test. Students do not need to turn this in.
  • Please talk to your child about keeping the mute button on during lessons until it is time to share, answer a question, or move to a breakout room. This limits background noise and distractions.
  • All assignments for the week are easily accessible by clicking on the daily buttons in Schoology.
  • In reading we will continue to work on asking questions, finding main ideas, comparing and contrasting ideas in a text, and writing our informational paper on the prompt : How do animals survive or adapt to their environment?
  • As we finish up testing we are looking at next week for a start date of when we will begin to meet in small groups in the afternoon during learning lab time. This will be virtually pending the districts decision. I will provide more information on this when testing is done and groups are formed. So PLEASE be sure to sign up for a NWEA testing spot.

That is all for now. Have a great Sunday and enjoy the warmth while we have it. Temperatures are going to dip big time this week! Fall has arrived 🙂

Peek at Our Week

Good afternoon Haigh families. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

Click here to see the plan for the week. You may notice the layout looks a little different. I made some changes to just include student assignments for you to view. Keep in mind that assignments and page numbers can change due to us not getting to all of the content. You will also notice that there is no live lessons again on Tuesday and Thursday. This is to allow time for NWEA testing at Haigh. If you have not signed up, PLEASE do so, the sooner I can get the testing done, the better! On the plans for the week there is a link for a recorded lesson that is currently not live. The reason for this is because I do not want to record today in case we do not get through all of the ELA content tomorrow. Tomorrow starts our 1st unit in our new reading program and I am unsure of how much we will get through virtually. Please be sure students have their Animal Adaptations paper booklet with them tomorrow morning.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please be sure your child is on time to each Zoom meeting
  • Link to the NWEA test sign up. PLEASE choose a spot.
  • Learning labs are currently canceled per district
  • Please make sure your child is completing homework and assignments on Schoology. Students have a 5 paragraph essay due tomorrow. Please review their work and take a moment to look at the example essay under the assignment tab ( This is an example of what their writing should look like at the beginning of the year). They should be using the outline from Monday to assist them.
  • Math homework should be uploaded each night in Schoology. Please see videos on a previous post on my blog for help with this process.
  • Please be sure your child is reading at least 30 minutes per day
  • A reminder that once the week is over past assignments will be moved to a black folder at the bottom of Schoology page with dates for the week.
  • Students should be doing one Zearn lesson each day. As of today they should be up to lesson 7. These lessons go directly with our Eureka Math curriculum

I just want to acknowledge and thank all of the parents for helping their child take on learning from home. I know everyone is out of their comfort zone, but we all have to work hard to do our best with the situation we are faced with. Teaching virtually places an extra struggle on teachers not being able to address and notice immediate needs in the learning process. It also renders huge struggles on parents trying their best to stay informed and connected. I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate all of you and as a teacher and mother of a 3rd and 4th grader, I know that it is a huge challenge. We must keep on swimming!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and go Lions 🙂

Peek at Our Week

Good afternoon Haigh families. I hope you have had a great end of summer weekend. The weather sure did switch from summer to fall!

This week we will try to begin our normal schedule and begin instruction. I know we have had (I have had) a hard time with technology. I have been in contact with the tech department and have been Zooming with my family members all weekend to ensure it will work on Tuesday. On Tuesday I plan to show the students how to get onto Schoology and access Zoom from a BIG yellow button. This button will be the link that students will use all year to get to their Zoom meetings. They will simply log in to Schoology and find my course and click the yellow zoom button at the times on the schedule. We will also be setting norms for attending Zoom meetings each day.

This week we are also going to begin to schedule meetings in the afternoon from 1:30-3:55 to assess students in reading. Please check out the sign up genius and find a time that works for you. Please note that students must wear a mask when entering the building and parents will be asked to wait outside of the building. Each sign up is scheduled for 25 minutes.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please check your email daily for notifications from me. The Zoom code for Tuesday will be there ( For safety measures I cannot post the link on my blog)  For the rest of the week and moving forward we will use the yellow Zoom button in my Schoology course.
  • Please begin to familiarize yourself with Schoology. Please see this link and this video
  • Please sign up on a date and time that works best for you to bring your child to the building to assessed in reading click here
  • Please go to getepic.com and enter the class code : tmh3334
  • Please ensure your child has a set spot that is comfortable, neat, and organized each day for their remote learning classroom.

Below you will find a copy of the learning for the week. Please keep in mind that this is just a plan for the week and may change due to issues with technology or a task taking longer than expected. I will be doing live lessons from 9:00-10:25 and 10:30-11:45. We will see how it goes. I know this is a lot of information but hopefully it will help prepare you and your family for a daily routine. If possible, please have your child on time with a whiteboard, marker, and a designated notebook for a reading response notebook. They will also need math notebooks near them during the math block.

Daily Schedule Link

Please email me with any questions you may have and I will try to answer them:) Have a great rest of your day 🙂

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

Greeting Haigh families and welcome to a new school year! As this one begins a bit (or a lot) different than years past, let’s remind ourselves to have a positive attitude, smile, and roll with the times. I am very excited to get to know all of my students this year and hopefully meet them all face to face in some form very, very soon! We have a lot of new things to learn this year both teaching virtually and with new curriculum, and I am excited to share all of this with you. No doubt that there will be some mistakes and triumphs along the way, but just know I will try my personal best to help you and your child along the way.

Please make sure to subscribe to this classroom blog so you can keep up to date with all of the new, exciting things that will be happening on this new journey of learning. 3rd grade is a great year of learning and personal growth and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Cheers to a great school year!
