Peek at Our Week

on February 11, 2018

Good afternoon Haigh families. I hope you all enjoyed the SNOW DAY on Friday. We enjoyed some family time sledding and playing in the snow, shoveling the snow (not a fan favorite), watching the Olympics and my sons hockey games. Hopefully everyone stayed safe on the roads, as they still are a mess.

We will have our spelling test from last week tomorrow. So please plan some study time in today.

This week in reading we will focus on analyzing characters in stories. We will review character traits and dig deep to attach strong character traits to each character. We will also work on using our evidence and reasoning to support our traits we choose.

In writing we will continue to work on our growth of Michigan informational paper.

In math we will review all of the terms from last week and plan to have a vocabulary quiz on these terms on Tuesday. We will begin to learn about polygons and use the newly learned vocabulary to help classify shapes into various categories according to their attributes.

In social studies we will continue to learn about the three major economic activities that contributed to the growth of Michigan.

In science we investigated why some places are hot and some places are cold. We will complete a poster describing a location that we have learned about through our Mystery Science investigation.

Our Valentines celebration will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00. Students are encouraged to bring in valentines for each child (We now have 24 students). We will be playing valentines BINGO,completing a STEM boat building challenge, handing out valentines, and finishing up with cookies and strawberry milk. For this reason, please DO NOT send in extra whole class snacks such as cupcakes and cookies. The students will have plenty of junk to satisfy their sweet tooth’s 🙂
