Peek At Our Week

on April 23, 2017

Good afternoon Haigh families! I hope you have enjoyed this beautiful weekend.

Reminders for the week:

  • We will begin NWEA testing on Tuesday. Please make sure your child has a healthy breakfast and some words of encouragement.
  • PBIS celebration is on Wednesday 🙂
  • Math test Friday

Academic Vocabulary:

  1. Mining- Digging minerals like iron and copper from the Earth.
  2. Glacier-A large area of thick ice that can move slowly across the land.
  3. Conserve-The protection of things found in nature.
  4. Thesaurus- A book in which words that have the same or similar meanings are grouped together.

This week we will continue to work on brief writes during our writing time. We will focus on opinion brief writes this week. This has been really fun to review and practice each genre of writing. The kids are doing great!

During our reading time we will continue to work through our M-Step review folder. We will also take a look at poetry and identify what we notice about it as well as the use of figurative language that is used to enhance the topic.

In math we will further develop fraction concepts that we have been learning about. We will review all concepts during our rotations and finish up the week with our unit test.

In social studies we will continue to focus on the three major economic activities that were responsible for the growth of Michigan; lumbering, farming, and mining. Students will learn about how mining helped Michigan grow and develop.

In science we have reviewed how slow changes affect  land forms through the process of weathering and erosion. This week we will look at how fast changes can affect the land through storms such as hurricanes and tornadoes.

Looking forward to a successful week at Haigh:)
