Good evening parents! Welcome back. Spring break was a great refreshment and an excellent time spent with family. We visited Disney World for the very first time and everyone was all smiles. I hope you all had some memorable family time as well. I apologize for the late posting as I am still getting everything back together after vacation.

Academic Vocabulary:

- Support- Additional information that explains, defines, or proves and idea.
ELA- In writing we will continue to work on narrative brief writes. I am impressed at the creativity that my students are showing each day. They are working hard at using their words to “Show not tell” what the character is feeling and doing in their story. We have been working on looking at the structure of narrative texts and completing brief writes of already composed papers.
In reading we have been working through our M-Step prep packets and getting used to the different formats of the questions. We have also been working on sharpening our listening skills by practicing listening to a story and answering the questions while only listening to the story two times. Of course we will continue to practice and strengthen our use of the CER (Claim, evidence, reasoning) format to answer any extended response questions.
In math we will look at identifying equivalent fractions with the help of our fraction bars and by applying our knowledge of multiplication and division. We will also take a look at comparing fractions later in the week.
In social studies we began our new unit today titled the growth of Michigan. Students will learn how Michigan grew to the state it is today after it attained it’s statehood in 1837.
In science we will identify and describe natural causes of changes to the earths surface.
