Peek at Our Week

on February 9, 2020

Good afternoon Haigh families. I hope your weekend is going well. I heard some afternoon snow is on it’s way today.

Reminders for the week:

  • Spirit Week
    • Monday- pajama day
    • Tuesday -mismatch day
    • Wednesday- sports team or crazy hair day
    • Thursday- Haigh spirit day
    • Friday- Wear red for Valentines day
  • Valentine gram sale during lunch (Mon.-Wed.)
  • Bring in a paper Kroger bag (We will decorate at school to hold Valentines in)
  • Small Valentine celebration on Friday at 2:30

In reading this week we will work on recognizing the theme in a story and supporting it with evidence from the text. We will also work on responding to questions from a text using the CER (Claim, evidence, reasoning) format.

In math this week we will continue to work on finding the area of composite shapes. This proved to be a little tricky for them this past week. Take a look in their folder at the sheet we did on Friday to help support them. I plan to test on area by the end of this week. We will begin our unit on fractions after mid winter break.

In science we will continue to explore how habitats have changed over time.

In social studies we will focus on how mining was a major economic activity that helped grow Michigan.

Academic Vocabulary:

  1. Theme- the message in a story.
  2. Inference- to use your prior knowledge and evidence from the text to figure something out.
  3. Parallel lines- two lines that are always the same distance apart and never touch.
  4. Quadrilateral- a 2-D shape that has 4 sides.

Looking forward to a great week!
