Good afternoon Haigh families! What a beautiful sunny Sunday, spring is near!
Reminders for the week:
- Library check out tomorrow
- Tuesday BINGO for books @5:30
- Friday 1/2 day
- Read-a-thon permission slips due Friday
Last week we started a reading challenge in the classroom. Students were asked to create teams and set goals for how many books they intend to read for the month of March. Based on the books they read they will earn “loops” to add to their teams reading paper chain. Teams will check in periodically during the week to chat with group members about their books, their progress, and new found vocabulary from their books. Reading at home counts for the challenge as well, so please encourage your child to help out their team and read, read, read!
This week in reading we will continue to work on inferencing but with a switch in focus to non-fiction text. We will also be researching an animal from the rain forest and writing a summary about them to tie into our March is reading month theme. In writing we will continue to work on our rain forest paper.
In math we will continue to work on fractions with the focus on comparing fractions through pictures, fraction bars, and our number sense.
In social studies we will work on our final lesson of push and pull factors that affected migration to Michigan.
Academic Words:
- Number Bond- a picture that shows part-part-whole.
- Entrepreneur- someone who combines human, natural, and capital resources to produce goods and services.
- Improper Fraction- a fraction that is larger than one with the top number (numerator)being larger then the bottom number(denominator).
- Selection-the process of selecting favorable traits of animals so they gradually change over time.
Looking forward to a great week ahead 🙂
