Good afternoon Haigh families! It has been a great week off and my family and I are loving the sunshine. Hopefully your family has enjoyed the time off to rest, relax, and spend quality time together.
Reminders for the week:
- Tuesday—PBIS escape room
- Thursday—Sky Dome Planetarium assembly
This week in reading we will work on making inferences in a text. We will practice using our prior knowledge, picture cues, and evidence from the text to infer important information about the characters thoughts, motivations, and feelings. In writing we will learn about opinion writing and take a stance on cutting down trees in the rain forest. We will practice using sources and do some of our own research to help support our opinion with evidence from a source.
In math we will begin our next unit of fractions. The fraction unit is one of my favorites because it is such a big concept and so very important. It is also my favorite because we have worked so hard with our multiplication/division strategies and building up our number sense. I just know we are ready to dig deep into this unit!
In social studies we will continue to talk about how manufacturing really helped grow the state of Michigan. We will begin to talk about the growth of the automobile industry in Michigan.
Academic Vocabulary:
- Manufacturing- the process of using resources to make a product for people to purchase.
- Fraction- a part of a whole.
- Mining- the process of getting minerals or precious metals from the ground.
- Partition- to cut or divide into pieces.
I am looking forward to a great week last week of February at Haigh!
