Good afternoon Haigh families! I hope you are enjoying the weekend. Go Lions and Go BLUE!
This week is a busy week with Halloween, PBIS celebrations, and a half day on Friday. Because of this we will NOT have any academic words for the week. We will still have a spelling test.
Reminders for the week:
- PBIS is Tuesday
- Halloween party on Thursday 1:30-2:30; you are all welcome to stop in and say hello 🙂 PLEASE sign in at the office.
- Halloween Parade 2:50-3:15
- Friday; half day
- Friday—3rd grade chip sale to support our Lansing field trip
- Please be sure to sign and return unit 1 math tests in your child’s folder by tomorrow. If they have a grade less than 80% they may complete the attached correction sheet for more credit. PLEASE DO NOT erase original answers or additional points will not be added. Please only use the correction sheet.
- If your child is now in Ms. Sellers class, please note they will be dismissed at the 4th grade doors off of Coburn.
A note about Halloween was sent out last week, however here are a few reminders:
- Students may wear costumes to school (no weapons or masks, please)
- Please DO NOT send in any snacks, candy bags, or goodie bags.
- Party– 1:30-2:30 we will be rotating through our room, Joachim, and Lozon’s room for fun games. No help is required, but parents are welcome to sign in at the office and pop in 🙂
- Parade will begin around 2:50. Please be sure to get a good spot around the perimeter of the building to take some good photos.
This week we will begin our new unit in math titled place value and problem solving with units of measure. Our first topic we will begin with is time measurement and problem solving.
In reading we will continue to familiarize ourselves with our new common core workbook. We have begun learning about CER (Claim, evidence, reasoning) questions to help us support our answers with evidence from the text and students have done really well. We will also look at recounting stories from the beginning, middle, and end to ensure comprehension.
In writing we will begin opinion writing. Students will start off with a fun prompt of what they think their teacher should be for Halloween. We will work on supporting our reasoning with details. We will progress next week with writing an opinion piece using evidence from a real text to support our reasoning.
I am looking forward to a great, FUN, SpOoKy week! Class size is now 23 and I am confident it will be a great week of learning! Enjoy the rest of your Sunny Sunday!
