Good evening Haigh families. I am sorry for the delay in this post.
Reminders for the week:
- Half day Friday; dismissal is at 11:45
- I sent home a letter asking for donations for classroom parties; please donate if you are able to.
- Box top or dimes are still being collected for PTA fundraiser.
This week in reading we will be learning about myths. Students will read several Greek myths and identify the plot, describe the characters, and compare and contrast different stories. Reading groups are up in running in the classroom. Students have set their goals and begun to read and work on assignments in class. They should be able to complete all their assignments before our next scheduled meeting if they are using their time wisely during our daily five reading block. If they do not finish it during class then it is their responsibility to bring it home for homework and have it finished with their best effort in mind. Please take a moment to ask your child what they are working on in reading group and if they have any assignments. You may also wish to have them bring their book home each evening; I am okay with that as long as it is sent back each day. This book can be used as part of their reading log.
In writing we will edit our personal narratives to include the use of adjectives, descriptions, and red flag transition words.
In math this week we will look at number patterns of 5 and use number bonds to decompose numbers. We will also review two step word problems and help students learn how to break the problem down and make sure their drawing or strategy matches the words in the problem.
In science this week we will be exploring friction and how it slows objects down. We will test different items to determine which has the most friction.
In social studies this week we will learn more about the Great Lakes and learn about the natural vegetation in Michigan. We will begin to explore the different regions that Michigan is part of.
