Good afternoon Haigh families ๐
I am sorry for the late post, but like many of you, I was without power ALL day yesterday. I am hoping that power is restored for any of you have lost power since I know how aggravating it can be.
This week looks to be wet and soggy! Due to the wet weather I am sure that our nature center field trip will be a muddy one. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately in rain boots or old gym shoes. In addition, please pack an extra pair of shoes for when we return Friday afternoon. Also, students will be eating a picnic lunch so be sure to pack a nutritious lunch in a brown bag so students can dispose of their trash.
Looking ahead, we have a few more field trips for the year. Please remember that if you would like to chaperone for a field tripย you must have a background check on file. You can do this quickly at the front office but the process takes about 2 weeks to confirm. Once the process is complete it stays on file for three years. I have a few people that are planning to chaperone for Fridays field trip that do NOT have background checks. You are welcome to attend, but you cannot be in charge of a group of students or ride the bus with us.
We have been super busy these past few weeks preparing for the M-Step. We will begin our M-step testing on May 1st. Please make sure students are going on Mobymax and Frontrowed for extra practice with reading and math. Every little bit helps ๐
This week we will have our math assessment on fractions on Wednesday. We completed the study guide on Friday so students should already have that in their owl folder. We will also be having our social studies test on Thursday or Friday. Look for a study guide to go out by Wednesday.
Due to our busy week, we will have 4 academic vocabulary words:
- Stanza- a group of lines in a poem; like a paragraph
- Synonym – a word or phrase that means the same thing. example: big, giant
- Antonym- a word or phrase that means the opposite. example: big, small
- Skim- to briefly scan the article and look for key words or topics.
Reminders for the week:
Tuesday: Assembly
Thursday: School store at lunch
Friday: Field trip to the U of M Nature Center
