Good afternoon Haigh families.
Reminders for the week:
Monday –PBIS winter carnival celebration
Wednesday– Magical Wonders of Michigan assembly
We are almost finished with our winter NWEA testing. I plan on having all of testing done by Wednesday.
Academic Vocabulary:
- economics-the system of how money is made in a particular region.
- climate- weather conditions over a long period of time.
- quadrilateral- a four sided figure.
- narrator- the person who is telling a story.
- point of view- the person telling the story and their feelings about the plot.
This week we will be learning about point of view in reading. Students will learn how the person telling the story brings in their own feeling and opinions which can change the readers feeling about the story. We will look at different stories and nonfiction articles to determine the point of view.
In writing we will continue to work on our informational snow writing. We will work on developing the body and make sure we cite all of the facts that we found to include in our article. Finally, we will publish our papers in a snow “flip book”.
In math we will continue to explore area and perimeter through the new math curriculum.Your children are doing a great job being flexible and patient as we learn and adjust to this new curriculum and math routines. Please make sure students are returning their math work books with them each day.
Our last unit in social studies we finished with learning about Michigan’s path towards statehood (Fun fact: Friday was Michigan’s 181st birthday!!!)We will begin a new unit in which we will learn about the different industries that flourished in Michigan and caused it to grow.
In science we will continue to learn about weather patterns and climate.
Looking forward to a productive week 🙂
