Good evening Haigh families! I hope you have enjoyed the SUN this weekend. It looks like it will be sticking around a bit this week 🙂

- We have regular lunch times this week
- We will be having PIZZA from Pizza Hut on Wednesday thanks to Eva Hammoud and the “Favorite Restaurant paper” she wrote. Students will receive a slice of pizza, so please pack a light lunch.
This week we have a semi-normal week.We have one more NWEA test to complete (science) and then we are done 🙂 We begin M-Step testing next week on Tuesday the 16th. This week the plan is to learn, review concepts, and have some FUN!
In reading this week we will focus on our M-Step folder. We will also continue to look at poetry and learn how to “dissect” a poem to discover it’s meaning. Students are well versed on how to comprehend a text, but poems can leave students with different interpretations and take aways. We will share ours this week.
In writing we will continue to focus our attention on the opinion genre. We will begin to write an opinion piece about…..SPIDERS! EEEK!
In math we will review multiplication and division concepts and focus on decomposing factors to help us multiply larger numbers. We will also continue to work through a variety of story problems using the CER method to explain our reasoning.
In Social Studies we will learn about the growth of the automobile industry and how it helped shape Michigan’s economy.
In Science we will investigate rocks and minerals.
Academic Vocabulary:
Please be sure your child is studying both their spelling and vocabulary words. Scores seem to be dropping and many students are not trying their best. Many students create flashcards and study them throughout the week. This has proven time after time to be an effective method for learning these words. We cover these words in class and in the content areas, but students still need practice with spelling and providing a definition in their own words.
- Stanza- A group of lines in a poem that are separated by a space.
- Capital resources-Goods that are used to produce more goods and services.
- Human resources- Workers and their skills.
- Natural resources-Things in nature that people find useful.
- Mineral-A naturally occurring substance that is formed in the ground.
