Good afternoon Haigh families!I hope all of you enjoyed the fantastic weather last week, I know I sure did 🙂 So lucky to have the week off and have the sun shining each day. I think the sunshine helped me recharge and prepare for an exciting new month…MARCH is reading month! We have a lot of fun activities planned for March, so be sure to check your child’s backpack for the calendar of events as well as a month long reading log. Students will use the school wide reading log in place of our usual reading log.
This week:
Tuesday 28th: PBIS Beach Fun party
Wednesday 1st: March is reading month kickoff assembly
Friday 3rd- Lions assembly
This week we will focus on finishing our informational paper about SNOW. We have been working hard at learning what a source is, collecting interesting facts about our topic, and organizing the facts we found into categories. In reading we will focus on reviewing concepts such as main idea, inferring, plot, and point of view as we read different passages and use the text to help us prove an confirm our answers.
We will begin our new unit in math with the focus being on geometry. This unit is FULL of new vocabulary. We will do a number of fun activities to help us understand and remember the terms. We will have quizzes throughout the unit to help us as well. Please make sure your child is visiting frontrowed.com and working under the geometry strand. This will allow for extra practice for this unit. We will also continue our multiplication challenge drills. While they may not be as frequent, they will still be happening. Thank you for your support and encouragement to help your child master these facts.
We will continue to learn about force and motion this week as we create marshmallow shooters to test the effect of different forces applied on an object. In social studies we will begin our unit on public issues.
Academic Vocabulary:
- Gravity- A force that allows things to fall or stay on the ground.
- Source- Something that we use to supply us with information on a topic. Ex. – book, website, photograph, museum, person
